Vehicle Detail

Item Information: A classic that was years ahead of its time, this Honda CX500 Turbo was heralded as the first production turbo motorcycle, Honda’s first fuel-injected bike, and a fantastic design by Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti. This motorcycle is being sold no reserve! Item Description: Overall the bike is in incredible condition for being 32 years old! It has spent its entire life in Cudahy, WI where it was delivered new in May of 1985 and recently purchased from the original owner right down the street from where I live. After a lengthy discussion I was assured by the previous owner that the motorcycle was always stored indoors, never laid down, and is all original - and I have no reason to doubt him. The battery is a new AGM battery this year, and fluids were changed regularly throughout the previous owner's care. I have made absolutely no modifications to the bike, nor any attempts to restore any finishes. The bike was carefully cleaned and hand washed, and a light coat of cleaner-wax applied. The clear plastic cover over the gauge cluster has a piece missing over the upper right corner, as shown in the photos. The previous owner does not know how it happened, and could not find the missing piece. Please note that my knowledge of the CX500 turbo is limited and is based solely on discussion with the previous owner and what I have read on-line. I welcome any and all questions, and will do my best to answer them promptly. Engine and Driveline: The engine starts at the press of a button and idles nicely. There are no leaks or abnormal noises. The bike runs out excellent throughout all gears, and the boost provides a notable difference in the powerband when the turbo spools up. Fuel System: The fuel system functions as it should, with a smooth idle and acceleration throughout the RPM range. The tank is perfectly clean inside.Wheels and Tires: The bike appears to have the original Bridgestone tires and while they have decent tread, they are showing a bit of cracking from age and probably should be replaced if the bike is going to be ridden regularly. The wheels are near flawless with no curb rash or corrosion that I could find. Chassis and Suspension: The frame appears to be in perfect condition and is exceptionally clean. I have made no adjustments to the air suspension preload since I acquired the bike, but have been told that it holds pressure. The fork seals did show minor signs of weepage and may need to be replaced before regular use. Brakes: The brakes do a fine job of stopping the bike and show no signs of leaking. The brake fluid does look old and should probably be flushed before regular use. Electrical System: The battery was replaced with a new AGM sealed battery at the beginning of the season and the charging system is working, as are all lights and the horn. The warning lamps are all working properly. The cooling fan is working as well. The fuel and temperature gauges have worked off and on since I acquired the motorcycle, and I have not had the chance to look into what is possibly at fault. Paint and Bodywork: There are a few minor scrapes associated with normal use and life in a garage filled with lawn equipment and other things normally found in a garage. I have tried to capture all of the major marks in the photographs, including the front right lower fairing (spiderweb), tail section (scratch), front fender (scratch), left front fairing (scratches in decals) and tank (two minor dings). The original windscreen is in near perfect condition. There are two areas where the paint is damaged, one being the right side handlebar cover (brake fluid damage), the other being the right side exhaust (paint flaking). Both of these could easily be addressed, but I will leave that to the new owner to decide how they would like to handle it. I have been told the paint is entirely original and I have no reason to doubt it. When comparing the bike to photos online I did notice that the red decal at the front edge of the fairing is not there, and after checking with the previous owner he stated that he does not remember the bike ever looking any different than it does today. Seat: The seat is completely original and flawless. Keys: The bike has one original key that works the ignition switch, fuel cap, side cover locks and helmet holder. It also has the original key chain from the dealership from which it was purchased. Summary: Overall I feel that this is a special motorcycle in incredible condition that could thoroughly be enjoyed as-is, or be the perfect candidate for an easy restoration. I have done my best to honestly and thoroughly describe the condition of the bike. I welcome any and all questions prior to your placing a bid. Auction Terms: Please ask any questions before bidding.
