Vehicle Detail
This is a factory 4x4, pretty rare for a 1965 Ford. It's an F-250, 3/4-ton longbed. I've owned it for 17 years or more. It has not run for at least 5 to 7 years and will need work to get it operational again. This is a "ran when parked" deal, so it just needs the fuel system cleaned, brakes bled, new battery, add fluids...the usual. The tires are completely dry rotted from sitting and won't make it around the block without popping. The guy I bought this from claimed it was a restored truck that he rolled over on a freeway onramp one night. He pieced it back together with the original bed, and a junkyard cab, fenders, and hood. That's why it's a bunch of different colors. The engine is a 390, and the previous owner said he had the engine rebuilt by The Balance Shop in Reseda, California, though it's had a lot of miles on it since then. I used to drive this all over the Southwest every weekend. The trans is a T18 manual four-speed that I had rebuilt at one time, and it has a divorced transfer case. The front end is a closed-knuckle Dana 44 and the rear is a Dana 60 with a Detroit Locker. I think it had 4.10 gears, though they could be 4.56. The body has dents, as you can see, but not rot-through rust. There are cracks around the right-rear body mount on the cab. Other that that it's solid. The truck is not lifted. That's the stock height and it fits skinny 26-inch tires on later-model 16-inch wheels. This is an easy project to make run and drive as-is. You may have seen this truck on the cover of 4x4 Power magazine in the late '90s, and it was also in 4-Wheel & Off-Road a few times in tech articles. I had a lot of great times in this truck, but can't afford to store it any more.
