A move to the East Coast is forcing me to put my project car up for bid. This is a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 300D sedan finished in Caledonia Green (color code 867) with a parchment MB-tex interior. I bought the car due to this unusual and compelling color combination. It's been stored in a garage for the past 14 months, driven only occasionally. This car was originally sold in Canada. The odometer is in kilometers and reads 137,000, which is approximately 85,000 miles. The engine is strong. I've owned several MB diesels and turbo-diesels and this is one of the strongest running vehicles I've known. It was legally imported has been legally registered in California for several years. It always starts up without hesitation, after a few moments of pre-heating the glow plugs. There are negatives, as with any project car. There is mild rust bubbling in certain areas (see pics). The carpet should be repaired or replaced. The brakes need servicing. The heating/air-conditioning controls are not working. The sunroof does not operate well. The previous owner claims to have installed new: radiator, thermostat, battery, master cylinder, water pump, and timing/radiator/alternator belts. I have not verified this with a mechanic, thus am selling as a project vehicle, not a restored vehicle. It is a beautiful sedan in search of a new caretaker. Obviously, it is being sold "as is" without warranty. Please do not bid unless you are a serious buyer.
