Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1914 Garford model HTU Stake Body Truck. The truck was donated to the AACA Museum in 2007 This is a 1914 Garford Model HTU Stake Body Truck that is in fantastic condition. Garford Co. made trucks from 1909 - 1933 and the 1914 up for bid was made in Elyria Ohio. The cabs were distinctive and resembled a Roman Chariot type cowls. The truck was professionally restored several years ago and was donated to the AACA Museum in 2007 where it has been in the collection since. The yellow paint is in terrific condition and is bright and shiny. The wooden stake body has also been refurbished when the restoration was completed, which looks beautiful! There are no major dings or imperfections to the body. The vinyl seat is in great shape along with the cloth top, running boards and flooring inside the cab. The engine runs great and starts right up with a pull from another vehicle. The hand crank will need some minor repair so it would catch on a safe place for starting. We have not used the hand crank for starting this truck- only pull starting it. The truck also has a cover plate where a starter would go so it could possibly be converted to an electric start. Being displayed and not driven it is not something that the museum would have converted. The truck does run great and the magneto and fuel system have just been gone over and cleaned. It has a 4 cylinder engine and a three speed transmission. The truck is equipped with solid rubber tires that are in good shape. There are some minor chunks taken out of the tires in spots but does not effect the ride or the handling of the truck. The rims are painted white and also pinstriped in black as seen in the photos. This Garford truck runs out and drives down the road very nicely and shifts and brakes with no problems but due to being in a collection that is not driven on a regular basis this vehicle SHOULD be gone over prior to any use to ensure that it lasts another 100 years! A careful recommissioning and inspection of this truck is highly encouraged before driving it on the road.
