Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1998 Ford F-150 Nascar Edition. This is one of 3000 that were built. There were approximately 1500 automatic transmission and 1500 manual transmission. This is an automatic. There were only 600 that came from the factory with the special roll-up tonneau cover. This is one of those. It works much better than the snap kind and together with the locking tailgate is very secure and is virtually like having a trunk. This truck was built in June of 1998, so it's really a 1998 1/2. This is a triple anniversary truck. The year 1998 was the 50th anniversary of the Ford F-series trucks. The truck has a special decal in the bottom left corner of the rear window to commemorate that. It was also the 50th anniversary of Nascar. Oddly, the only decal Ford used to commemorate that is a tiny one on the tailgate. I remedied that situation. I purchased a pair of decals leftover from what was used on the actual race cars that year and placed them on the truck in the same location that they were seen on the race cars. It was also the 50th anniversary of United States road racing at my old home town of Watkins Glen, New York. Watkins Glen International's 'official' 50th anniversary decal was rather plain and lacked style in my opinion, so I had a custom decal made to add to the truck. I have all of the documents that go with this truck, including the original press kit with slides and press release documents from Ford. This truck is in exceptional condition for being 16 years old. There are no dents or dings whatsoever and even the few scratches are very minimal and hard to find. There is absolutely no peeling of the clearcoat. Many of these trucks that still remain have been heavily modified and had their stripes removed. That's not the case with this one. The original stripe package looks like new and the only modifications were the addition of a K&N air filter and a set of American Racing wheels that look even better than the original black ones, and a modest window tint. The original Roush exhaust still looks great. The headlights are not yellowed or cloudy. The tires are quite new with a lot of tread. The seats show no wear and the dash has no cracks. Even the plastic door sill plates are clean. This truck came with sliding rear window, Ford logo bedliner, and trailer hitch with special Nascar logo hitch cover. The original spare tire has never been used. From engine compartment, to interior, to underside this truck is very clean. Even the original cloth floor mats are quite clean. I have stored them and included a nice set of black vinyl mats that I have used that are a good visual match to the interior. The truck starts immediately and runs like a new one. The sound is perfect, in my opinion. The transmission shifts as it should. The brakes have all been re-done and there is a new a/c compressor. It could use a new set of shock absorbers. The time and radio station do not display on the stereo, but the radio and tape deck work fine and all other equipment is functioning as it should on the truck, right down to the wiper washers. There is a Kenwood 10-disc cd changer mounted behind the driver's seat. The mileage is slightly under 154,000 which NADA says is somewhat less than average for a 1998 and they actually value it at being worth $150 extra for that level of mileage. The truck has been obviously well cared for, but has not been left just sitting undriven to deteriorate. The only reason that I am selling the truck is because I just bought a classic Ford and I only have a single-vehicle garage. The NADA value is in the range of $6000 to $8000. I am starting the auction at $3700 with no reserve. I would just like to see the truck go to a good home where it will be taken care of and appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions. ~~~Update 5/26: In response to requests for better/different photos, I have tried to address that. But there should be an understanding that with sunlight, glare, reflections, shadows, etc, conditions are rarely absolutely ideal for perfect photos. I have been asked about the original wheels. They were not with it when I purchased the truck. I believe that the dealership that sold the truck new, Kerry Ford, Cincinnati, Ohio, swapped the originals for the set of chromed American Racing wheels to attract more potential buyers. Various dealerships did that with these trucks because they thought the black ones were too plain. (5/27 I have located a good set of 4 originals that are available for $150 total and will provide the info to the winning bidder if desired.) However, they were really nothing special. They were basically an Expedition wheel painted black. See the final photo. They can be easily duplicated. Ford did not get elaborate with the wheels for these trucks. Additionally, Cragar makes a wheel of the very same design. The fact is, various different manufacturers make them. They are rather basic and easy to find at inexpensive prices compared to other custom wheels. Another subject that has been brought up is the mileage. These trucks are good for twice as much mileage as this one has, and more. The 4.6 liter V8 routinely goes for very high mileage in Crown Victoria police and taxi cars. It has proven to be very reliable. *** Please wait for a response from me after auction ends before paying. Several payment methods can be accepted. Shipping is at buyer's expense, but I will help in any way I can. International buyers are welcome, but all funds must clear before the truck will be released to the buyer. Good Luck and Happy Bidding!
