Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 The slogan penned by Cadillac’s copywriters many years ago was “the standard of the world”. And while the current line up of GM’s top marquee is impressive, nothing is quite the same in terms of style and substance as a vintage Cadillac motorcar. So for you bidding pleasure I offer my 1967 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. I am the third owner. I have lots of paper work over the years, mostly from me, but some receipts from the 2nd and 1st owners, going back to the 80’s. I have owned the car for about 11 years. The Cadillac is incredibly well equipped. Runs well some nice upgrades and is in fair shape overall for a nearly 50 year old vehicle. Interested in what your hard earned dollars will buy? Before you read on I will apologize if the description seems verbose; I want the future owner to have too much information instead of not enough. Exterior: The car has one single stage respray, the color is a close approximation of the original GM color. The car had a vinyl top on when new. The top has since been removed. 1 piece of the trim that would go between the top and the trunk has been lost (there are left and right components). Although two of one side is included, perhaps the owner can trade for the missing part. At least one set of windshield and rear window revel trim is included (I think I have 2 complete sets, but don’t want to make any promises). The car has some rust at the base of the front fenders. Patch panels are available from FEN enterprises in upstate New York. There is also some minor rust above the front window. The paint is presentable, but has a large scratch that runs nearly the entire length of the car on the passenger side. It does not show up in the photos, but its there, along with several other scratches consummate with years of daily use. The chrome bumpers and stainless trim are nice and in above average condition. The front windshield was replaced at the time of painting and the rear resealed. That being said the car leaks water above the windshield, about were the rear view is. The car is garaged or under a carport when not being used, so this is only evident when I wash it or when it rains which is never in southern California. Interior: The interior of the car is as original as the day it left the assembly line in October of 1966. No holes in the dash or doors for dated and cheap stereo equipment. Carpets are fair. There is a stain behind the drivers seat were I spilled coffee. There is a decent set of black factory mats in the trunk for the front, which I removed to show the condition of the carpet underneath. Dash, and interior panels are nice. The dash has a crack extending from climate control sensor to the under side. Door panels are free of cracks. Condition of the seats is self-explanititory. The front drivers side is heavily worn, with the foam underneath broken down. The rear and passenger side are nice. The head liner and parcel shelf are nice As I mention in the opening paragraph this car is incredibly well equipped. All the standard de Ville options (AC, power windows and locks) plus most others you could check off when Pete Marchand and his wife ordered it in the fall of ’66. Even Don Draper has to crank open the vent window to ash his Lucky Strike in his silver and red ’65. Not you. You have power vent windows, along with: Cruise Control (stuck at 57 MPH) Air Ride (components are present, factory compressor is bypassed by a manual valve) Auto on/off head lights (twilight sentinel, works like it should) Power Seat, worksSoftray Tinted glass Remote trunk open ( Trunk opens from the switch in the glove box, works) AM/FM Stereo with factory 8 track. Cadillac demo tape included. Stereo works, as does the power antenna. Although the factory stereo has been bypassed by a separate Alpine receiver and changer mounted in the trunk and controlled with an infer red repeater hidden in the ash tray. Upgraded speakers have been placed behind factory grilles. The passenger side window is slow going up and driver side needs to be guided. Lock out and emergency work like they should and all windows roll up and down from their respective switches. Mechanical: The cars original 429 and TH400 are long gone. The current motor is a rebuilt ’68 472 with about 15K miles on it. A mild cam, upgraded rocker arms and big Edelbrock carb mounted on a stock manifold under the 429’s air cleaner. Spark comes from a new at the time of rebuild HEI distributor curved to match the cam. Exhaust exists through headers and into dual pipes and mufflers. This was done a few years ago. One of the headers leaks at the collector gasket. I hind site I would have kept the exhaust manifolds. All under hood engine components were replaced at the time the rebuild. That means alternator, fuel pump, radiator etc. have less than 15K miles on them. Car has a rare set of factory pulleys to omit the air (smog) pump. (only 2 belts are required instead of 3) Recent coolant service and thermostat ensures it runs cool. Transmission is the original TH400 that backed the 472 and has been rebuilt about 7 years ago, although it only has 5K miles on it. Both motor and transmission leave small drops of fluid on my garage floor after sitting. The drive line was custom made to accommodate the different placement of the transmission after the swap, with u-joints replaced at the time. The car is equipped with factory disc brakes from a ’68 Cadillac. A new master cylinder, correct for the disc brakes was installed at the time of the conversion. Rear wheel cylinders and some front end components have been replaced in the last few years. The bushings for the front shocks have deteriorated and require replacement. New wide white radials are a few years old, yet have less than 1000 miles on them. The car is titled clear and in my name, with registration up to date. You get all receipts, 2 sets of original keys, one period spare key. Factory owners manual and warranty card, and a trunk load of extra parts. I have additional spare parts (grill, lamps, vent window motors, power antenna motors/mast, ¼ panel trim) available to the winner at a fair price. I have what I feel is a fair reserve; about ½ way between rusted non-running pile and cherry one owner. I simply don’t use it and would like the garage space. You get a classic 2 door cruiser in good shape with updated drive train and I free up a space in my garage. Good luck.-Adam 530.520.4293, if you have additional questions.
