Vehicle Detail
OK, let's have the bad news first: The car is currently overheating. It started that bitter cold week when it was subzero. It overheated on the way to work, I let it cool, added water and headed home, stopped once more to add water, got home and drained it so it wouldn't freeze up. Then I waited for it to warm up so I could check it out. and waited some more. I bought another car to get to work, and this one just sat there. A common problem on these, the "coolant flange" was leaking. Replaced it, refilled anti-freeze, pressure tested it (all good). Drove it near home and it overheated again. Thanks to Advance Auto loaner tools, the compression on all four cylinders is between 160-180. No water in oil, no oil in water (kind of rules out a head gasket, but maybe not). Coolant system holds 14 psi no problem. Checked an awesome resource for cabs (that's what you call your Cabrio, newbie) vwforum dot com Seems the water pump impellers commonly fail, or the thermostat is sticking. I bought both parts, but by the time the weather got warm, work was too busy to spend time on this, and I already have the other car now. So it is for sale, with the parts. Possibly a head gasket, but more likely a t-stat or water pump. The car and parts can be yours with a winning bid. With a weekends work, you should be topless and in the sun! Now for the good news: This car is a BLAST! I'm the second owner, bought it from a guy here in Cincy, who later gave it to his daughter for college, who then gave it back when she graduated with a law degree (so it might look like different owners on the title report, but it wasn't). I bought it from the dad. The car is great. Paint is shiny, runs great (other than the overheating part), well cared for, with the original top still in great shape (tells me it has been garaged most of it's life). I get 32 MPG in my daily commute, maybe 28 around town. Nice stereo, a blast to drive with the top down or up, and I get compliments where ever I go (well, not me, but the car does). Here is what I have done to it recently:New Tires (~$450, Tire discounters, less than 5000 miles on them)New rear brakes, wheel bearings, and emergency cables.Recent oil change with oil and air filter.Car shifts, drives, and handles great.New coolant flange.INCLUDED in SALE: new water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing and gasket (see pics). Car MUST be towed, but can be started and run for a few minutes.Car is very clean, inside and out!As you can tell, I meant to keep this one for a while, but fate and cold weather intervened. The remaining bad stuff:A dollar sized rust spot on passenger lower fender (see pics)Typical rock dings in hood, but not bad at all for a 19 year old car! (see pics).Hole in drivers seat from my cell phone.Doors only lock and unlock for the passenger door (bit of advice - never leave anything valuable or interesting in sight in your convertible, but never lock it. Better to loose a few bucks in change than have your top cut or window broke. This method has worked my whole life) Ok, thats about it. Please only bid if you are serious. No reserve, just a starting number, so first bidder wins. Car MUST be towed, but you can come start it and hear it run. The listed parts are included. Payment methods are PAYPAL or CASH. No money orders, IOU's, first born children and especially no moneygrams. Title is in hand, I will help you load it on the trailer. Come check it out and take 'er home before convertible top season really hits us! Good luck!
