Vehicle Detail

1984 BMW 533i, was my daily driver until an e30 came along. Car hasn't been driven much since December 2012. The Good: Many parts replaced in the last 3 years, including clutch, all ignition parts from the coil to the plugs, injectors rebuilt, fresh coolant hoses and thermostat, brakes are about 4 years old but are in good shape; shocks, struts, sway bar bushings and links are about 4 years old, head was replaced three years ago with one from an early '83, therefore, head gasket and intake/exhaust gaskets are new. Clutch replaced in April 2011. New tires in July 2012, only about 5,000 miles on them. Does not burn any oil, but the there's a slow leak from a small gap between the timing covers above the timing chain tensioner spring. Driveshaft support bearing is new, about 2 years old. Odometer works, and reads 228k, but this is inaccurate...car has unknown mileage, closer to 300k likely. Fluids always kept fresh, but will need to be replaced again soon. Battery is two years old, had no problem starting in the -15 degree weather we had here in January. Windshield replaced 2-3 years ago. Car comes with 4 extra door cards, full second set of wheels (chrome and silver TRX-I's with recent reproduction tires from Coker, they're ok in dry weather only), handful of other random parts. Runs very well, spins right up to 7000 rpm with no hesitation or issues, no misfires. The Not-too-bad: Everything mostly works, other than cruise control, a/c, and some OBC functions. The OBC clock works fine, and temp would too, but needs a new sensor. Odometer rolls correctly, but shows inaccurate mileage. All gauges work, cluster is from an '87 535i, no SI batteries needed. Foglights removed, and yellow high-beams re-wired as foglights. Can be easily undone. Leather seats are worn, but front seats need attention. Tears in passenger seat, and driver's seat has a section of leather and foam missing on the bottom of the outside bolster. There's no rust or significant rust that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I just don't know about it. There are no overheating issues, but if you let it idle in warm weather for more than 5-10 minutes, the temp does start to creep up some. New fan clutch would cure that. The kind-of-ugly: The body's a bit...rough-ish. The rear driver-side door and quarter panel were hit, and (badly) repaired. Door needs to be completely replaced, as shown in pictures. Quarter panel was repaired with a new panel cut from another e28. The front bumper and plastic surrounds are intact and included in sale, rear bumper was destroyed. Occasionally, water leaks into both front and rear driver's side footwells. Only when it rains, of course, but not every time it rains. Paint is Krylon satin black, original color was also black. This car never got a glance from anyone when it was shiny, rattlebomb it with $30 of Krylon, and everyone loves and compliments it, even taking pictures of it in parking lots. I don't know. The shock/strut mounts (all 4) need to be replaced, it doesn't take large bumps too well. Driveshaft pieces need to be aligned. It's balanced, but was not installed on car properly, and u-joints just need to be lined up. Vibrates between 60-70 mph, which will eventually damage the driveshaft support bearing. Exhaust is barely clinging to life, needs to be replaced right away, although it's still not a very loud car. As seen in the pictures, the hood is out of alignment somehow, and needs to be fixed. Still latches down, but not properly. Ignition switch needs to be replaced, starter is connected to a button under the steering wheel. No funky wiring involved, the button is connected to the starter pins in the diagnostic connector. Turn the key all the way forward, then hold the button until it fires up. Many e28's start this way. There you have it. I've been as complete and honest as possible about the car and its condition. It's extremely reliable, well-built, comfortable, and very easy to repair and maintain. Once the driveshaft is put right, I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car anywhere. No, I will not ship the car. No, I will not accept a check that's $800 more than the sale price, then being asked for a refund of the difference. Sorry. No, I will not part it out. It's all-or-nothing! Full payment is required from winning bidder within 24 hours of auction's end. This car is also listed for sale locally, and I reserve the right to terminate the auction early should it sell. I will NOT be available to release the car to buyer until Saturday, May 10th (3 days after listing time). Won't be home. Sorry! Thanks for looking!!
