For sale: 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL Roadster/convertible. This car has been maintained extremely well and shows it. Full maintenance records available . I am the second owner. Always garaged since I have owned it (since 1996). Car was recently taken out of air conditioned storage after 3 years. Most people interested in buying this classic Mercedes are very familiar with it and know what to look for in a good example. This stunning beauty has a near flawless black exterior with very desirable Palomino leather interior. It also has the optional back seat in the matching color. (It is enough space for a dog or small child...however it does have 2 regulation seat belts)The vehicle was just serviced last week by the leading Mercedes Service Center in Charleston, SC (STAR MOTORS). The service included: (engine tune-up including plugs, oil and lube service, new belts, new hoses, A/C replenished, evaporator, in addition a safety check was performed that included exhaust, cooling system, brakes, lights, and transmission , which all checked out as they should , plus all fluids were changed). Paint is near perfect, chrome is excellent, windows not cracked and operate as they should, power mirror works, leather interior has no damage other than normal wear over 27 years, carpets are clean , glove box perfect, trunk super clean, body has no rust at all .One very small nick on rear bumper. Dash has a tiny hard to see crack on defroster edge (about 1/2 inch). Other major items which have been recently replaced include: New Mercedes battery, four (4) new tires (205/65 R15 94H) , new original type, perfect fitting, German soft convertible top (SL also has hard top), new body mounts, radiator, fuel pump, entire A/C upgraded from R-12 to R134a, air bag and timing chain changed at 60,000 miles. (Mercedes recommends chain replacement every 10 years). Note that even very low mileage cars that have had minimal usage for years can have defective air bags after 27 years. Also, the body mounts and tires on low mileage cars can dry rot, so I had them changed. I want to know the air bag will work if I need it. The new body mounts also reduce the road noise and make the car tighter. This 560 SL (including the hard top and wheels) was professionally repainted with Mercedes original equipment paint in 2007 by STAR MOTORS in the original black color. It shines beautiful. During the painting process, all body panels and trim, as well as bumpers were removed prior to painting and examined for any possible interior rust. I have pictures to show the awesome paint preparation work.Car has 560SL Owners Manual and 560SL top operation manual. It also has the original tool kit , original First Aid kit in trunk plus unused spare tire on an original Mercedes wheel. Engine compartment is clean and professionally detailed. I have owned this car since 1996. I bought it in New York at the Manhattan Mercedes dealership. It was on display in the center of the showroom and I had always wanted to own an SL of the late 80's. I bought it immediately. The dealer indicated that it was previously owned by the Trump organization and used by Ivana. I moved to South Carolina in 1996 and the car has been in the south ever since. It has been displayed at many car shows and gets admiring looks from anyone who appreciates this classic beauty. Car is being sold "as is" without an implied warranty. No other fees will be charged, like the dealers do, for " administrative paperwork". I will be very pleased to help you with shipping if you need that assistance. The vehicle history report shows one (1) accident in 1993, before I purchased the car. Apparently a pedestrian was hit , but I never saw any damage when I bought the car in 1996. Must have been minor. Other than that, the history is perfectly clean. The only items needing possible attention would be the clock and wood interior panel around the gear shift. The clock stopped working last year. The wood panel has some small cracks and a perfectionist might want to replace it. (see pictures). .The original Bosch AM/FM system was replaced about 6 years ago with a SONY. I do not have the original system. You may want to consider upgrading it someday with a newer high tech system, although the current model works great. Power Antenna goes up and down properly when radio turned on. This vehicle looks and runs like the very low mileage ones you sometimes see on eBay, but without the extremely high asking price of $18,000 to $30,000 they want. Plus all the expensive changes and repairs have been professionally done.Please ask me any questions. The $12,000 buy it now price is very consistent with all the car buying services.
