Vehicle Detail

The frame has absolutely no rust. I traced the ownership due to a California license plate still with the car and found out that it spent time in California which probably explains the excellent shape of the undercarriage. Engine is the original 390HP 427 big block as built for this car documented by the following: Block casting date code "C 217" (March 21, 1967) casting #3916231. Block stamped "T0605IL 18S422607" indicating that engine was built in Tonawanda, NY June 5, 1968 as a 390HP 427 for a Rochester Quadrajet & 4-speed to be installed in a 68 Corvette broadcast serial number 422607. Cylinder heads have casting numbers 3917215 with casting dates "E-8-8" (May 8, 1968) & "E-10-8" (May 10, 1968). Transmission is the original M-21 close-ratio 4-speed as documented by correct casting #3884685 with build date code "P8H06B" (Muncie Heavy duty 4-speed built June 6, 1968 as an M-21). Serial number "18S422607" stamped into transmission matches VIN. Differential is original as documented by casting code "E158" (cast May 15, 1968) and stamped "1AU6168W" indicating that the rear axle was built during the 6-16-68 1st shift as a 3.36:1 ratio Heavy Duty Positraction for a 427 engine-equipped car by Warner Gear Company (correct posi-traction lubricant warning tag attached). Differential casting number is #3871375. Original factory build sheet found on top of fuel tank 12/31/05 shows that this vehicle has had only minor restorations; Body plate supports documentation that this vehicle is the original (repainted) beautiful dark metalflake International blue color. It is NOT the overly-common light Nassau blue like so many Corvettes of this era. The paint on this car is absolutely stunning! The 2 things needed for this engine are an A.I.R. pump & Quadrajet carburetor. Both are available via the internet. The headlight and windshield wiper cowl vacuum systems works good; I rebuilt the servos and replaced all the vacuum lines. The vehicle comes with a bunch of original parts: P01 turbine wheel covers in fair (typical curb rash) shape; original distributor with coil; correct ignition & door keys; oil pan; original radio with both speakers; correct water pump; many parts replaced during my restoration; scrapbook with awards won & original 1968 advertising proofs. I have no way of knowing if the mileage showing on the odometer is accurate. The gentleman I bought it from couldn't authenticate it and privacy laws blocked me from tracing ownership backwards from him. I was however, able to trace the genealogy of the vehicle to the original delivering Lincoln, NE Chevy dealer; 5 Nebraska owners, 3 California owners & 2 Chicago owners. As anyone who has owned a 46 year-old car knows, they always need tinkering. At this point this car needs the center instrument panel refitted from a poor gage repair (that's the last time THAT idiot will work on my car!); the right exhaust manifold to pipe donut gasket is leaking; and the brake light switch just stopped working. Everything else seems to work fine. Yesterday I did the spring start-up (spark plugs pictured) and it runs strong! Purchased 4/2/05 in very good condition. I judged it against the NCRS 68-69 Corvette Technical Information & Judging Manual 10/29/05 & updated the vehicle over the next 7 years to conform to judging standards. I have a detailed restoration log & parts accounting spreadsheet of the $41,000 invested. I'm selling this car because my hobby is turning to motorcycles. I've had sports cars for 40 years and looked for the right Corvette for 5 years before I found this one. My Mentor is a Service Director at a huge Chevy Store in Chicago & is a Bloomington Gold judge who turned away 10 cars he looked at before this one. After examining this car for 2 hours on a lift he proclaimed "now THIS is the real deal; it's not a counterfeit like so many big blocks because if it was, it would be the 435HP!" Whoever buys this car better like a FAST car!On May-04-14 at 07:25:32 PDT, seller added the following information: The frame has absolutely no rust.
