This 840 CI is in very good condition. Mechanically 100 %. Exterior some scratches that are expected in any car that is 18 years old. The interior is excellent with the exception of the roofline starting to fall.(this ultimately happens to every 8 Series) but an inexpensive fix. I believe the 1997 840 is the only 8 Series that has a sport drive transmission. All the instruments and gauges work. This car has been adult owned, garage kept and driven on the weekends( BUT not every weekend) and been maintained by a professional mechanic. It has upgraded BMW premium wheels. Tires are excellent condition. If you looked at many 8 Series before your saw this add, I suspect most of the cars you found were in pretty poor in the condition. This car is the exception.
