Vehicle Detail
This is a no-reserve auction with a very reasonable buy-it-now price. Be sure to look at all 72 pictures of the car. What I have here is a 1965 AMC Rambler Marlin. This a black-on-black project car that has been sitting since 1988. A dry Colorado car since day one, it would not take much to make this a nice little driver, but it needs a total restoration to be beautiful. This is one of 10,327 '65 Marlins produced, and one of 6,013 with the 327 V8. PLEASE NOTE: This car is being sold as a parts car or a project car, as I have no title for the car. I will provide the winning bidder a notarized bill of sale. Onto the description. This car is darn near rust-free. There is one small soft spot behind the passenger's rear wheel lip that shows some peeling patchwork, and there is one very small spot forming on the floor by the seat tracks. Otherwise - the floors are excellent, the trunk is good, rockers are good, fenders good, cowl, etc. This is a rock-solid Colorado body needing virtually zero rust repair. The car is pretty straight overall, and very much so for its age. There are a few dents and dings, but nothing outrageous. No major crash damage. The driver's door is the worst of it, and would be a 2-hour fix for any competent body man. The grille trim is dinged up, and headlight bezels too. According to the VIN, this car is the 59th 327-powered Marlin ever built, and it is highly optioned. Tilt wheel, 4-piston power disks, power steering, 327 4v, console, automatic transmission, xtra-rare for '65 power windows, radio, factory locking gas cap, remote mirror... etc. The car is very complete and original. Trim, interior, etc. The trim is 90% good, there are a couple crunched pieces front and back as previously mentioned, but mostly good. The car is on some rollers now, but 4 original AMC disk-compatible 14" wheels go with car, and 4 nice original caps. The glass is all good except for the cracked windshield. Interior is shot and needs to be redone, but it is all there. I have all three keys. Operationally, I have not done much to the car since I extracted it from its cocoon, but I did get the engine to run, and the car does move on its own power. I replaced the battery and starter solenoid so I could crank the motor. I cleaned the carburetor and replaced a few gaskets; it fired right up, and runs on a jug of fuel that I strapped inside the engine bay. The ignition switch works, and it runs remarkably well for having sat for so long... No smoke! The shifter detents are vague, but the car does seem to go into all gears and it does go down the road. Now the bad. The car had been sitting for 26 years, so as you can imagine there are a lot of things that need attention... like the brakes: the booster and master cylinder seem to be working but the wheel cylinders are stuck. The power windows do not work, it might just be a fuse, I don't know. The passenger's side exhaust was cut to remove the exhaust manifold and access the starter, so it will need to be welded up. The trim tag is missing. Radiator has a small leak up top. I haven't checked fuel tank but I am sure it needs cleaned out. Etc - anything a car sitting this long would need, this car will need. Bottom line - this is a great project car, a great place to start, highly optioned, motor runs, very solid body, rare and unique - but everything needs attention. LASTLY, please see my 14 STRAIGHT YEARS of 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK and BID WITH CONFIDENCE! *********************************** Questions? Send me an email, or call me - 303.941.0272. I'm on Mountain time. You certainly may view the vehicle if you'd like, I'd encourage it. The winning bidder is responsible for vehicle transportation. I'll help in any way I can; my zip code is 80033 - Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Shippers would consider this a non-op or in-op vehicle because the brakes aren't working. A PayPal deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of auction close, and the balance within one week unless otherwise arranged in advance. This car is for sale locally, so I do reserve the right to end the auction as necessary. Car sold as-is, where-is. Thanks for looking!
