Very nice, reliable 1997 Audi A4 2.8L Quattro 5 speed manual. Approximately 197,250 miles on the odometer. Garaged most of its life up until the last year or so. Leather seats, cold weather package (seat warmers and ski pass-through bag from the trunk), wood trim, power driver seat, AM/FM/Cassette. Unmodified save for cross drilled, slotted, and zinc plated brake rotors with black painted calipers and Audi decals front and rear. Compared to most I've seen recently (including newer B6 bodied A4's with half the mileage), the car is in really good shape. The good: - Nearly complete maintenance records since we have owned the car (2002), 2nd owner. - Never wrecked, clean title, clean CARFAX. - New tires (Cooper ZEON RS3-A) and 4 wheel alignment: ~6,000 miles - New(-ish) clutch, timing belt, water pump, belt tensioner, accessory serpentine belt, spark plugs: ~25k miles (2010) - New cam position sensor and water temp sensor, cabin filter: ~15k miles (2011) - New O2 Sensors: ~8000 mi (2012) - Remote works, have key and valet key, as well as all manuals. - Original paint with good clearcoat and no rust. Minimal amount of door dings and rock chips on a car this old (see photos). - Title in hand and will be provided with car. Now for the not so good: - Heater does not function. Not sure it's the heater core as both hoses are hot indicating flow. VCDS shows no error codes and all the motors seem to cycle okay in test mode - more time will be needed to diagnose. - AC will need a charge. Charged it last summer and it worked fine. Currently not blowing cold air. (Easy DIY job). - There is a shimmy when first applying brakes, but it then smooths out. I don't think it's the rotors - it is felt more in the steering wheel than the brake pedal, which leads me to believe it could be the front wheel bearings. (Napa - $40 each) - Power steering leaks and needs a periodic top off. Will leave spots on the driveway. - Cruise control does not work - could be fuse (never bothered to look). - Driver seat starting to separate at seam and crack. (See photo) - Driver side seat heater gets a little warmer than it should on the right side of seat. - Headliner starting to sag in the back seat. Not a large area as yet.(see photo) - Registration and smog is NOW DUE (March 2014) if purchased in California. I foresee no problems passing smog. - The car has 2 failed smog tests in the past (see CARFAX), the first due to failing O2 sensors (since replaced). The second failure due to a code reset a day or so prior to the test - evidently the Big Brother California OBD-II smog machines can detect and don't like you clearing the codes in the computer (yet will fail you if there are any). I did nothing but drive it around for a few hundred miles and passed. - Will probably need new front brake pads soon. Buyer is responsible for shipping/pickup in Sacramento, CA 95829.
