Vehicle Detail
For sale today is my 1968 Datsun 2000 Roadster. This car is a driver. And when I say driver, it is not a 'Trailer Queen'. First, the negatives: The car was originally silver but was repainted to yellow at least 25 years ago. The top is an ugly tan/fawn color and has one small rip in it (see pic). I only drive in the summer so the top is normally down. Second, the seats are in bad need of seat covers. That is why I never removed those sheepskin covers. Third, the transmission; the clutch doesn't slip and all 5 gears and reverse are there, but the 2nd gear synchro is a little slow. So no speed shifting to 2nd and you need to double clutch to downshift. Fourth, take a look at the pics. There is some rust on the rear wheel arches and a couple little spots on the rocker. Underneath, the car is solid; look at pics. This car sat in a warehouse from 1991 until I bought it in 1997. I have a garage and that is where it has lived since I've had it. One time in 2006 I got caught in a summer thunderstorm about 10 miles from home; that is the ONE TIME this car has seen a wet road in 23 years!! The engine runs well and burns no oil. The oil is changed yearly with a factory filter and Mobil 15W-50 even though I only put 100 miles on it since it was changed the previous year! It has a brand new Nissan water pump installed with new coolant. With the engine warm, dry compression test numbers are as follows: #1-110, #2-120,#3-115,#4-110. Also new is the fusebox. They were a common problem on '68s and I had a new Nissan box I got a few years ago. All lights and gauges work. The AM radio works, but the speaker is bad. The clock worked up until last year. I bought the 15" Panasports and Bridgestone Potenzas new in 2005 and the tires are like new with about 800 miles on them. The original 14" wheels (painted black) are included should the buyer want to restore the car to original specs. New carpet and KYB gas shocks were replaced at the same time. All the glass is good. This is a fun car to drive and always gets you a thumbs up and questions like "that's a weird MG"! Like I said, I've owned the car for 17 years and have driven it less than 2000 miles. It's always buried behind mowers and takes 20 minutes to dig out of garage. I was out of the mood by the time I got it out of the garage!! Plus, I'm 20 years older now and my tastes have changed. This is a good solid car that needs to be driven. It needs a restoration to win any awards, but that was never my intention. Having worked in a Nissan dealership for 11 years, I always wanted to own a Roadster and a Nissan Patrol. 1 out of 2 ain't bad!! This car is truly the 'forgotten classic'. I am located in central Shenandoah Valley in western Virginia right on I-81. If interested, please call me at 540-480-5588 after 5:00 PM EDT and I'll do my best to answer your questions or take specific pics for you. Please call so we can get together for a test drive if interested. Both the tonneau cover and top cover (seen in photos) are included. I require a $500 deposit within 48 hours of purchase. Car must be picked up within 1-2 weeks(I'm flexible). Please do not bid if you don't have the means to finish the transaction. And please DO NOT send me low ball ridiculous offers; I want to sell the car, I'm not desperate!! I have the right to end the listing early for a local sale. I've done my best to describe the car accurately but please contact me with questions. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Thanks for looking!!
