Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Get the EV grin with this factory-converted 1994 Geo Prizm (same as Corolla). It drives like a $30,000 Leaf except it won't go as far. It's great for local driving, safe with air bags and virtually impossible to roll. The electric vehicle looks and drives like any car with automatic transmission. Regenerative braking recharges the batteries as you slow down in D1 and D2. You can actually drive the car almost without using brakes. I try not to go more than 20 miles before charging, because discharging the batteries way down diminishes their lifetime. The car currently shows less than 19,000 miles. Fifty lead-acid batteries in two parallel strings are mounted under the car in a box weighing about 1200 pounds. Batteries were new in 2011, and electronic clampers on each battery keep the charging voltage from rising above 14.7 volts at 20 degrees C; this establishes what the lithium guys call "top balancing". This is an early AC design, which evolved to that used in GM’s famous EV1. The controller has an internal battery charger, which takes overnight to charge. Battery voltage and current are displayed on a Link 10 meter so you can watch your battery pack condition. The Prizm dashboard “fuel” gauge doesn’t show anything of value, nor does the temperature gauge. You can access useful diagnostic information from the controller with a laptop running DOS, which is included if you want it. There is no guarantee, and the car is sold strictly as is. If you’re not familiar with the US Electricar, I suggest you come and look at it. Mechanical parts of the car are just like any Geo Prizm. Fortunately, there is an active and helpful discussion group whose URL I can't list for some reason (yahoo groups US Electricar ,click on conversations), where excellent advice is available and just about every maintenance issue has been resolved. Several members of the group will repair electronic components. In my view, this group has made more information available than there is for any other legacy electric vehicle. From underneath some bumper damage is evident in both the front and the back. From above it’s not apparent, and I didn’t notice it until a year after I bought the car. There are some small dings on the bumper covers and body. Some spare components, tools, and documents are included. Payments: I not equipped to take Paypal. I need a $500 electronic transfer or money order payment within 72 hours. For the balance within 5 days, any of the following would be OK: electronic transfer, cashier’s check or personal check if you can wait until it clears, or cash on pickup. Shipping: I’ll be happy to cooperate, but the buyer should make arrangements to ship from zip 95521. I am 280 miles north of San Francisco.
