Vehicle Detail
Up for sale here is a 1962 Dodge Dart 2-door sedan. This is a true, stripped, base model Dart, not a 330. It's also a real 2-door sedan, not a converted 4-door or any such nonsense. I posses a clean, clear title in my name for this car. This vehicle was found in the dry plains of Western Nebraska where it had been sitting in the blowing dust for decades. I brought it home a year ago and started breathing some life into it. By no means is it a perfect survivor, and at first glance the two layers of peeling/sunburnt paint are off-putting, but there are an enormous amount of positives to be found here, particularly considering what a difficult body style this is to locate. I have owned many of these over the years in various states of completion, and this is possibly the nicest unrestored '62 dodge 2-door sedan body I have ever had. I am selling this car as a rolling project vehicle. This one would be perfect as a nostalgia race car, period-correct hot rod, or as a Max Wedge clone you could actually afford to build. Originally a slant-six / three-on-the-tree, there is no engine or transmission in the car currently. The good: The best thing about the car is that it is very dry and free from rot for what it is. Specifically: - The rockers, cowl, firewall, inner fenders, doors, door seams, quarter panels and wheel lips are all very good. The engine compartment is very nice. The roof, decklid, and hood are all solid. - The trunk extensions have surface rust, but no rot. - The floor has been professionally replaced with a nearly-perfect original floor which was harvested from a bone-dry '62 4-door (and seam-sealed with 3M sealer). - The fenders are very nice with the exception of the upper dogleg area which need small patches. The doglegs - amazingly - are NOT completely rotted out; the bottoms are fine, but half-a-foot up, small patches are needed on both sides. I replaced the heavily pitted windsheild with a much better original used piece. I replaced the crumbling 3-on-the-tree column with a nice automatic/floorshift column, a much nicer (restorable) wheel, and a nice horn button. Original radio delete is in place and nice. Original speaker grille rough but in place. Original 8 3/4" axle present. Cluster is not great but restorable. Rolls on vintage Cragar S/S wheels and drag slicks - 15x7" in back and 15 x4" (with the hard-to-find single bolt pattern) up front. Engine compartment very clean. Original 60/40 split bench seat present - its a solid core, with decent tracks and hinge covers. Decent inner sill plates - tough to find. Never had outers. What is left of the paint on the car is half of it's original "Desert Rose" and half a horrible green that is falling off - BUT - There is NO BONDO or FILLER in this car ANYWHERE. The driver's quarter panel was hit long ago and someone tried to pound it out with a damn hatchet - it was awful. I had a master bodyman pound out this damage (and a few other spots), and get it straight enough to be ready for bodywork and primer. Exterior trim is mostly complete and much of it is in good shape. 2-door-sedan-only upper door stainless is excellent. Front are rear glass trim very nice. Bumpers aren't awesome but are usable cores. Hood and trunk emblems are remarkably unpitted. Grille is pretty good, as are headlight bezels and grille surround. Fender/door stainless is pretty rough. Includes front valance support, inside door levers, transmission crossmember, decent kick panels, radiator, and other misc bits not pictured. The bad: The door panels and backseat are missing. The passenger's side door glass and vent window glass is pitted because someone must have been welding or grinding near the car. In fact - overall - none of the side glass is very good. But it is flat glass and easily replaced. No trunk lock cylinder. No keys. The last remaining rot of any significance is the trunk floor, which is isolated to the well area. I personally would POR-15 and seam seal the rusted area, but I am including a perfect original trunk floor panel with the car for the new owner to use at their discretion. Front valance is beat up, they always are. Lower 3" of rear valance has been cut off, God only knows why. I do have a nice replacement that goes with the car. Dents, dings and scuffs throughout - needs bodywork and paint. Has surface rust to be dealt with throughout. ****** 90 PICTURES of the car can be seen by clicking HERE.
