Central Valley Classics Classic Restorations & Cars For Sale Fresno, California Helping people buy their dreams for over 20 years We are proud to offer this special vehicle for auction! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Project VIN - 5R09C227168 302 V8 Engine Automatic Transmission Manual Steering Manual Disc Brakes Bucket Seats I Know these fastback's are getting harder to find in any decent restorable condition as time goes on. This real 09 code was found in a salvage yard over 30 years ago and was brought back to life at that time but sadly, it has been just laying in wait for the last 21 years because of a family disagreement. The car does carry a salvage title because it was junked once but it appears to be wearing all the weld on original sheet metal so I doubt it was junked for anything other than being an old car at the time. The engine is a 302, definitely not original and there isn't any history to tell anything about it. It has been started with a can up front and does run but it sat for at least 21 years so I would call it a running core. The gas tank is full of crap so it will need replacing, it's cheaper than boiling it out and coating for sure. The car was driven onto a trailer and off but when moving it from the trailer to the spot it's parked in now the transmission made a loud noise and dropped all the fluid on the ground so it no longer moves by itself. Now the car did have a 9" Lincoln Versailles rear end added, probably the junk yard where it was found so it has 4 wheel disc brakes. I did see a front sway bar under there also. It had a ratchet shifter installed and in the process the original console was removed and subsequently lost. The interior looks like original upholstery, the front & rear seats are intact, the dash pad suffered a few cracks and the carpet was removed to get a look at the floors. The original headliner is there so all the bows are intact and the instrument cluster looks good but I can't say if all the gauges work or not. It has all the rear trim, it looks like it had some water leaks in the back they caulked but that should clean off the panels. The rear vents both move freely as well. As far as I can see, everything for the interior is there with the exception of the console, pass. side seat trim and door panel The exterior of the car was repainted the original poppy red and it doesn't look too bad until you get closer than 20 feet. This car sat outside covered with a tarp so moisture caused all the rust issues I will describe, I have put as many pictures to show condition as eBay allows but have another 60 showing more detail. The quarter panels are in great shape as are the trunk extensions so this car won't need quarters like many do. Rocker panels look good. The drivers door was replaced for some reason so the door tag doesn't match the fender VIN and title. The front fenders look decent, a little issue on the bottom of the pass. side but definitely useable. The doors are rusty right along where they meet the lower part of the door sill. You can see how clean it is underneath but it has issues around the windows, drip rails, rear package tray and the trunk floor by the wheel houses. There are also some pinholes along the trunk drip rail and probably a few on the deck lid once it's cleaned up. The inner fender aprons and shock towers are in very good condition with no signs of rust or damage. The floor pans are only rusty along the front seam, I think they could be repaired rather than replaced. The uni-body is solid as you'll find and I think it's probably an original CA car judging by the fact you can still see paint & primer underneath rather than rust or under coat hiding things. To recap, the car will need the drip rails repaired on both sides, some work around the windshield and rear window, the lower package tray replaced, work to the trunk floor by both wheel houses, font of both floor pans repaired, the trunk drip rail repaired and probably the wiper cowl belly pan replaced (haven't looked at it but real common). The grill bar & exterior trim was removed by one of the sons, perhaps to prime some spots but all of it disappeared, most of it would've been replaced during the restoration so I don't think it's a serious issue. I think anyone would agree this is a much less costly project than the ones that need every panel replaced and will be a more solid car in the end, don't hesitate. I let you know what I saw and learned so ask questions if there's something I didn't cover. I tried to show the important things in the pictures and have 60 additional pictures so send me your email address if you want to see something in more detail. The car is near my shop so I can get additional pics if I don't already have them. There is no Buy-It-Now, if you want to bypass the auction process please make an offer I can submit to the owner for approval. I your offer is acceptable a Buy-It-Now will be added, many of the auctions I do are completed that way.
