MEYERS MANXThis car has been certified by Bruce Meyers as an original Manx. Bruce produced aprox 5200 of the Manx kits and said that this car was probably one of the first 200 produced, based on his inspection of the car. The car is registered in ca. as a 1968 VW . As you can see, it is set up as a street car. (not a dune buggy) CHASSISThe VW chassis has been reinforced across the bottom and up both sides of the body (out side of the body) with an external steel cage. The cage ties in to the front and rear role bars. The cage has been covered with 18 Ga. sheet metal. The addition of this cage makes the car much stronger and safer and helps retain a clean street car look without a visable roll cage. Most of these cars have a roll bar bolted to the fiberglass body and are for the most part useless and down right dangeruse if they brake loss and brake your neck !! The seat and seat belts are bolted to the sub chassis not to the 20 ga. sheet metal pan !The suspention is basicly stock VW,(link pin) with the addition of 2.5 in. dropped spindels in the front and an adjustable front beam. I could never get it to run to my satisfaction (tuning issues) so I decide to build a electronic eng. management system using a Mega Squirt Controller. It took a few mo. of home work and fabrication and Tuning. The eng. now runs much better in terms of throttle response and power.If the new owner wants to learn more about tuning (without getting hands dirty) in the 21st cent., all you need is the desire to learn a new skill and a lap top. If you don't have basic computer skill don't do it. Tuning is kind of like writing software, as there is always room for improvement.The tach. is not working , as it was originally connected to the distributer . To get it connected to the Mega Sqirt requires a little more work , Ill leave that to you. Warning ! I dont know the horsepower as I have never had it on a Dyno. I can tell you, this car is not a toy and must be respected as it can get away from you ! To much throttle in a tight turn will brake the tires loss, so be ready ! All though, squalling the tires from time to time can be a kick!I will require that the new owner sign a release of liability , as this is basically a kit car. So, Here is a chance to own the first kit car brand, Meyers Manx ,Started by Bruce Meyers.These cars will not depreciate and will always be considered special.
