1996 E36 318ti 2dr HatchbackRare California Top! 5-Spd Manual Silver/Black I purchased this vehicle a few months ago and planned to do a motor swap (LSX or s52 Turbo) with an E36 series. The 318ti is the lightest and smallest of the lineup, which would make it a great candidate for take an amazing power-to-weight ratio with the motor swap. Reality just set in, and I just don't have the time to do so, and I'd like to pass it on to someone who appreciates the potential in this car. I haven't touched the car and/or removed anything since it was purchased. Title is a Clean & Clear NJ State Title in hand; no liens. The car is in good condition structurally and mechanically. Cosmetically, there are minor scratches and rock chips on the front bumper; nothing out of the ordinary. Absolutely No Rust is seen anywhere on the body either. You would be hard-pressed to find a 17 year old one without rust. Everything works inside the car: all lights (low beams/high beams/signals/hazards), dimmer works as well to adjust the brightness of the interior lighting during the evening drives. Windows roll up and down with ease and no hesitation, etc. The body is straight and clean - Original Arctic Silver that accents the sharp lines of the hatchback. The interior is black LEATHER and relatively clean. There are no rips, gouges, or stains on the seats, and the manual functions (reclining, moving forward/back) do so without a hitch. There is a small exception of headliner sag which isn't bad considering that this is common on almost any make and model car. The suspension is lowered on Aftermarket Suspension with 18" Koenig Wheels giving it a subtle yet dominant stance. It is also wired for a big stereo, and comes with an Alpine Head Unit. With the rare California Top along with the Manual 5-Spd Transmission and black leather, it's a rather low production spec'd BMW 318ti.Digging around, I've found that Only 1,200 318ti's with the Cali Top, and even less being manual and optioned in black leather I've discussed the condition and detail of the car to a vast extent, but if you're a BMW enthusiast like I am, you would appreciate these minor issues. -It will need a new clutch (original unit is toast) -the drivers seat needs attention/minor repair (passenger seat is fine) -needs windshield replacement (cracking on windshield) -Cali-Top is inoperable at the moment, which is common since the actual motor that retracts it uses both a metal and a plastic gear to move the top. Over time the metal gear chews the teeth off the plastic one. The motor itself powers up fine. Just an aftermarket metal solution will be inexpensive considering the motor is $290 alone. A small repair was made on the actual top with sealant as seen in picture. -The airbag light and pad wear sensors for the brakes are lit. The sensors are usually the culprit since the brake pads have good meat left. The airbag light can be cleared with ease. The car fires up every time and idles smooth as it warms up to operating temp. Even though the car is immobile, I take care of it every week (start-up the vehicle to operating temp and clean it). I have the original owners manual, booklets, cassette tape tucked neatly into the OEM Leather bound BMW Documentation binder with receipts of service intervals from 1st owner as well.Please remember, I had purchased this vehicle as a project knowing that it needed minor TLC.
