Vehicle Detail
For auction is a rare and excellent example of a 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 Factory Soft Top Model. FJ40s can be hard to find in this condition regardless of year/model, but they are nearly impossible to find in the soft top configuration and including the original soft top bows, doors, tailgate, etc. Sale also includes a period correct soft top in the correct color (white). No diagonal window jeep-looking top here! You could look for FJ40s every day (like I do) and these simply are not out there. This is the one I'll someday wish I didn't sell! 1974 was the first year of the factory roll bar and upgraded engine and first year of the 4 speed manual transmission. **Limited Rust; just on the rear sill and corners. NO rust under the vehicle or on the frame. Vehicle likely never left Arizona!** Limited amount of rust + original parts and condition + factory soft top model make this a perfect candidate for a daily driver, cruiser Friday, trail rig, or full restoration. TELL ME MORE!! Original Freeborn Red Paint (Toyota Code 309), pure single stage beauty with no bondo, no overspray, no repaint. The Arizona sun has worked it's magic to leave a nice patina. It takes nearly 40 years to produce a finish like this! Original drive train including the solid, multi-named, seldom cursed F.5 or F1.5 or F and a half engine. It's solid like the earlier F engines with an updated oiling system. 4 speed manual transmission. 2 speed transfer case including the famous and fabled 4 Low gear for when it gets serious. Selectro Manual locking front hubs. No extra holes in the dash! (Factory dashboard has some cracks.) Sale includes: Full set of soft top bows (red ones that this truck was born with) Both 'soft' doors, -RUST FREE- still with factory white canvas (dusty from being stored indoors in Arizona) -RUST FREE- drop down tailgate, correct for this model and original to this vehicle. Aftermarket white soft top, vintage and period correct and in great condition with clear windows and solid stitching and zippers. I purchased this vehicle from a retired postal worker who lives in North Phoenix. He had it for 15 years or so and told me he purchased it from his brother. A thorough title search, which I have not done, would be able to confirm this. I believe the original mileage to be 119,000 +/-. Recently replaced: Fuel pump (new one that was included when I purchase the vehicle) Fuel tank Radiator Seats (*NEW* front seat upholstery; seats are from a newer FJ40 with headrests) Spark Plugs Spark Plug wires Shocks (Napa) Aftermarket gauge set (ALL factory gauges work as well), no holes drilled for aftermarket gauges. This Land Cruiser starts right up and idles nicely with *NO* choke. (It has a choke, I just don't use it.) Accelerates through all 4 gears, solid clutch does not slip and *NO* grinding or popping out of gear. A slight backfire (more of an endearing burble) when you let off the gas at speed. None at idle at full operating temperature. Brakes are great. Factory seat belts at all 4 seats. Period correct rear jump seats, they are not original to this vehicle but are original / unrestored. I have the original ones to this vehicle (upholstery not good) which can be swapped in at no cost, but only one set of jump seats is included. Truck comes with a full set of 5 factory wheels and hubcaps. Front hubcaps might be the every so classy rear ones with holes cut out. Tires are set of 4 Goodyear 31.5x10.5x15 with same size spare. Low beam headlights: work High beam headlights: work Horn: works Blinkers: work Wipers: don't work Hazards: work Cig/Cigar/420 lighter/12v outlet: works (used it to charge my phone) White bulb green lens under dash light: works Radio (original factory radio): works Gauge lights: work side/front/rear marker lights: work Heater fan: works CAUTION: When you start driving this, children will stare. Dogs will want to ride in it. Women will want to ride in it too but won't admit it. If I were keeping this 40 I would replace original OEM exhaust.
