1959 Cadillac Series 62 “Flat Top” - JUST OUT OF SUSPENDED DRY STORAGE! Up for auction is a beautiful ‘59 Caddy hardtop that is a true western "barn find". The deceased former owner left this car perched 6 feet in the air in his storage building in the small town of Choteau, Montana, sitting on top of timbers and concrete-filled 5 gallon buckets! How he got it up there and why remain a mystery, but there it sat under a layer of dust until pulled out earlier this year - the last plates on the car were from 1976. Check out the photos below - they‘re amazing! The car was protected from weather and sun and is in remarkably preserved shape, and I will try to describe it to the fullest extent possible. This is truly a gorgeous car and a great driver. Exterior This car is a stunner despite some minor flaws. It is a butter yellow color called “Gotham Gold,” and was repainted once in its factory color. After I got the car home I gently washed it and then had a vile of factory-coded paint made to touch up any chips, after which I did a two-stage machine compound and wax job; the paint cleaned up beautifully as can be seen in the photos. Still, it’s not perfect. Decades of dust filtering down through the corrugated roof left some super-fine scarring in a few places in the paint (which is only noticeable if you’re looking for it and would likely come out with a wet-sanding). There are three spots on the hood where the paint is failing, and one spot on the roof which has been resprayed. All these flaws are shown on the photobucket link below (eBay only allows 24 photos). The car’s stainless trim and chrome are in excellent condition. All the glass is perfect, and the rubber weatherseals are soft and pliable. The underside of the car is very clean. We don't salt the roads in Montana and this car also shows no signs of any accidents. A few minor things: there are two small dents that could easily be fixed by a competent body shop, which I am not, so I'll leave them to the new owner - and a few other flaws which are shown in detail in extra photos on the photobucket link. I want the new owner to see what he’ll be getting so please check them out. In spite of the minor defects in the body/paint, I think you can see that the car presents very well overall. Interior It is difficult to capture in photos how remarkably well preserved the interior is. The seats have no tears, and the door panels are in outstanding shape; a tear on the driver‘s armrest cover is the only glaring flaw. The headliner is in great shape but has a few light stains (see photo). The dash pad is in overall good shape with only a few cracks, the largest of which is shown in one photo. The gauges, lights, horn, heater/defrost, vents, Wonderbar signal-seeking radio, and power antenna all work; the clock does not. The odometer/trip meter do not work but the speedometer does (ie, the cable is not disconnected); the odometer reads 98798 and this seems consistent with the condition of the car. The car’s factory carpet is clean and in great shape, and features new reproduction floor mats. All I've done is lightly clean the interior - I didn't even put ArmorAll on the vinyl, so that you could see its natural condition, which is excellent. The trunk has its factory floor mat, which has some stains. Drivetrain The car is equipped with the stock 390 V8 and 4-speed automatic. Paired with the high-geared rear end, she really flies down the highway, and is quiet and smooth. I had a professional mechanic rebuild the brake system and it works flawlessly and stops the car quickly. The motor, tranny, driveline, axle, and front end are all tight and in great condition. As a sign of how much I trust the mechanical condition of this car, I recently drove it on a 200 mile trip without incident; I got 16 MPG exactly. You can tell this car was always treated to regular service and care. The engine compartment is clean and factory original. The motor needed only a flushing of the cooling system and new hoses/fluids/filters/battery. There is no blue smoke from the exhaust and the motor idles low, smoothly, and quietly. The transmission leaked after a few miles of initial use so I had it pulled and treated to a seal kit front-to-back and new fluid; it shifts flawlessly. The car rides on radials with Portawall 3-inch whitewall caps, which I have not been very impressed with (they are beginning to crack at the edges). If the new owner wanted, he could remove them and use the 1-inch whitewalls already on the tires. Overall This is a remarkably preserved car with a great story, all ready to go. It comes with a full set of photos documenting its removal from storage. I have replaced everything necessary so that you can just turn the key and enjoy the car, and I'm confident you won't find a nicer ‘59 Cadillac for the money. The title is clear and notarized. I have gone to great lengths to describe the car accurately and in detail, including its minor flaws, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. This is a 54 year-old car and all potential buyers are encouraged to ask questions and see the car in person before bidding; it is located in Belgrade, MT and is available for any potential bidder to see in person and drive. It is sold "AS-IS" and "WHERE-IS" and absolutely no warrantees are made concerning it or its condition, either expressed or implied. Please note that a $500 Paypal deposit is due at auction close. Thanks and good luck! More photos may be seen at: http://s843.photobucket.com/user/gilbs77/library/CaddyOn Dec-11-13 at 10:03:43 PST, seller added the following information: I have received a number of inquiries from Australia, and am happy to entertain bidders from your country. I have not sold a car to Australia before, but it seems that the process is as straightforeward (on my end) as it would be for a sale to someone within the USA - namely, after I receive full payment for the car I sign over the title and release the car and title to either the purchaser or the purchaser's agent (usually a transportation company). Thus, since the phrase "assist with international shipping" has been used in a few of the Australian inquiries, I feel the need to be clear that my "assistance" only involves cooperating with the vehicle transport company that would pick up the car from my house. Once the car leaves my house and possession, I am no longer responsible for it or the process (which I am unfamiliar with) with customs/ship transport. The bidder/buyer is solely responsible for all details/planning/process once the car leaves my property. If a bill of sale or something of the like is required for customs, I would of course be happy to provide that, but if there is something else, I would need to be informed before the close of the auction. Thank you for your interest!
