Vehicle Detail

INTRODUCTION: This car is a unique and superior example of one of the industry’s finest vehicles, the Superformance Mk III Cobra, SPF1021. This car has been professionally engineered and improved from its original Superformance design over the last 8 years by a multi time SCCA National Champion, and unlike most any other Cobra you will ever see, it feels, runs, drives and handles as good as it looks, and like the supercar it should be. No expense has been spared, and you’ll never see a better Cobra. I will take some newer and better pictures to add, and more of engine, as soon as I get a sunny day. There are some things I have improved and cleaned up since the last pictures. First the high points, with more details below: MKIII CHASSIS: It begins with the outstanding Mk III factory built rolling chassis: http://www.superformance.com/mkIII.aspx The Superformance MKIII is the only Cobra replica built under license from Carroll Shelby Licensing Inc. The Mk III starts with four wheel unequal length double A-Arm independent suspension, and this one also comes with a custom supercar Woodward MRC power steering system and custom tuned suspension, professionally engineered for proper feel and handling. (this is the anodized steering system in use on F1 cars, Bugatti’s, etc.). http://www.woodwardsteering.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=682&Itemid=586 This unique car also comes with custom engineered Wilwood Pro Spindles and 4 wheel disc brake system with dual master cylinders. This provides improved camber curves, roll centers, less bump steer for much better handling, as well as easily adjustable brake bias for the best braking and utmost safety in any environment. This unique car also weighs in well UNDER 2350 lbs with all fluids and 5 gallons of gas. Of that 2340 lbs, 53.4% of the weight is on the REAR wheels for perfect weight distribution and tremendous traction. ALL ALUMINUM 427ci FORD FACTORY SMALL BLOCK: It is powered by an ALL ALUMNINUM (block and heads) Ford Racing Engines factory-hand-built, 600 horsepower, 427 cubic inch Windsor small block crate motor engine that weighs only 350 pounds. This entire car, with its perfect gearing, independent suspension and differential, and 600 horsepower, is faster than anything sold by any manufacturer today. Very few people on the planet have ever driven anything as fast as this car… yet due to its massive tires, superior rear suspension, and outstanding weight distribution, this car hooks the power up and puts it down extremely well, and can be as docile a cruiser as you could want until you really get into it. This body on this car is clean and sleek, with extra hood clearance for better power and efficiency, shaved fender wells and full underbody exhaust for a sleeker look, (no sidepipes), and custom interior with MOAL electronic gauges and mil-spec switches. The body is decked out with fantastic Lamborghini Titanium paint (no stripes) from Superformance that absolutely outshines anything I’ve ever seen in the sunlight or at night. HISTORY: For the seller, this car's duties consisted of driving to nice restaurants and car shows, cruising on nice days, and a very occasional autocross. Even on street tires, it is faster in an autocross than the seller’s SCCA winning Z06. This car has not otherwise been tracked or drag raced, except twice at the drag strip to confirm its power and reliability on track (unbelievable performance - if you ran it hard, it would hit 140 mph in the 1/4 mile). If you want to be low key, this may not be for you. Valets will want you to park it yourself, and leave it up front of any hotel or restaurant. Mechanics will drool over it at gas stations. Car enthusiasts will line up to ride in an autocross. Whole Harley clubs will surround you on the highway and look you over, grinning with thumbs up. Cops will pull you over just to talk to you about it, and let you go with a grin. This car has charisma like no other, and performance to match. Even my wife loves it! It is clean titled, and has been insured, registered, and emissions exempt in Harris and Ft. Bend County, Texas, as well as in Kansas City. I've had no issues with registration or emissions. This car has 2400 miles on it. (In the signature action photo of this ad, the car was at an autocross, going over 60 mph, pulling over 1.2 g’s cornering on street tires, and putting a grin you can’t believe behind that helmet!). THE DETAILS: CHASSIS: Jig-Welded parallel ladder frame of heavy wall 2" x 4" rectangular steel tubing with large diameter outriggers. Frame incorporates front and rear crumple zones. Door hinge, steering column and windshield pickup-points incorporated onto main chassis. Ford aluminum housing 8.8 independent Limited slip differential with heavy duty axles, u joints and cv joints. BODY: Beautiful two-stage paint finish in Lamborghini Titanium. Hand laminated fiberglass body with reinforcing inserts. Hand laid fiberglass panels with steel tube reinforcements in all openings. Where the body points carry loads they are reinforced with steel bars or panels. Body bonded to chassis and is completely non-stressed. Beautiful Lamborghini Titanium paint (no stripes) from Superformance, with extra hood clearance, shaved fender wells for a sleeker look, 3.5" oval tubing underbody exhaust (no sidepipes), and 3M paint protection film in key places to prevent chips or wear on the paint. Monza style aluminum gas filler. (locking gas cap). Stainless steel roll bar, chassis mounted (currently out of car for a sleeker look, but comes with car and is easily bolted in. In fact, the original wood wheel, chrome bumpers, shifter, gauges, etc., all come with the car if you wanted an ‘original’ looking cobra. (Some of the pictures show the roll bar in). FACTORY HARD TOP: Factory Optional Superformance hard top, painted in body color, and containing real glass and molded weatherstrip is included (this is a $4,000 option). SUSPENSION AND BRAKES: Wilwood brakes, 1.19 x 12.19 rotors front, 4 Piston Dynalite Pro Calipers front and rear. Olthoff braided stainless brake lines. These brakes are a major upgrade from original Superformance brakes. Tilton hydraulic clutch and dual adjustable front and rear Brake master cylinders with custom Tilton aluminum pedal assembly for improved reliability, safety, looks, and ergonomics. These pedals fit and travel perfectly, unlike the original Superformance ‘factory style’ units, and also save a bunch of weight. Four wheel unequal length double A-Arm independent suspension, and this car has Custom crafted Bilstein coil-over shocks with custom tuned Hypercoil springs. This car also comes with a custom supercar Woodward MRC power steering system and custom tuned suspension, professionally engineered for proper feel and handling. If you want to park this car, work a drive through, or autocross it (or track it), the faster ratio, perfectly weighted steering, and improved bump steer really sets this unique car apart. COOLING, WIRING AND GENERAL: Latest technology single row high performance aluminum core radiator with shroud and 2 electric fans; oil cooler; hand fabricated stainless steel engine louvers; original style wiper assembly with 2 speeds and 140 degree wiper arc; hand fabricated windshield assembly to original specification, chrome plated. Oil cooler, remote oil filter, and braided lines. Even with 600 horsepower, this car runs at 190 degrees even stopped in Texas traffic in the sun on 105 degree days, and this car has never gotten above 200 degrees on the gauge (my infrared gun on the radiator shows 180 at that gauge reading). INSTRUMENTATION/CONTROLS: Custom Classic Industries MOAL electronic gauges (original mechanical Smiths gauges included), with milspec toggle switches for lights, fans, etc. This Car was fully professionally rewired to upgrade the harness for reliability and longevity, and includes proper relays, grommets, kill switch, and fittings. All wiring professionally routed, soldered, heat shrunk for water proof connections, and loomed. Hand crafted shifter and handbrake. Extra bright Halogen and LED headlights, turn signals and brake lights. (The Factory Superformance wiring was not heat shrink protected and lacked appropriate gauge wiring and relays for a proper fuel pump, etc.). My next plan was to recover the dash and gauge panel with new leather - if you want to do this the dash comes out with only 2 bolts, taking the wheel off, and unplugging the gauge panel - probably just a 30 minute job. INTERIOR: Comfortable and supportive hand made seats upholstered in German specification automotive leather. These seats, unlike most replica cobra’s I’ve driven, are REALLY comfortable and supportive, you’re your seating position is also comfortable and proper. This is really rare in replicas. Disclaimer, if you are a huge guy, these cars are not for you: however, this one has more leg and foot room than a normal Superformance car due to the new pedals and lowered seats. Anybody over about 6'4 or 260 lbs is probably going to need to do some readjusting of all the seat, wheel and pedal arrangements to be comfortable. (that said, on the dyno a friend fit in it that was probably over 6'6 and 350, but it looked funny). Fully carpeted floor, center console, sides and rear firewall. Carpeted interior and trunk. Aluminum finished firewall. Wipers & Washer. Leather seats. New Race Quality Quick Release Harness seat belts. Custom Black Alacantra Race steering wheel and shifter boot, with AC lables. DIMENSIONS and CAPACITIES: Wheelbase: 90" Length: 152" Height (Top of screen): 48" Width (Overall): 69" Track Front: 54" Track Rear: 57" Weight 2340, 53.4% rear weight distribution Fuel Tank: 17 gal. Ratio 3:45:1 ENGINE AND ACCESSORIES: Ford Aluminum Block M-6007-Z427AFT 600 horsepower Windsor engine http://fordracingparts.com/m/Part.asp?p=12378 Built on Ford Racing's stout aluminum Z351 block, the FRPP 427 crate engine is engineered and built for drive-ability and durability while still offering a throaty growl. The Ford Racing 427 crate engine is ideal for street rods, kit cars and all Ford projects requiring big power in a reliable, lightweight package. Based on the low volume and high quality, I believe this motor will ultimately be a collector’s motor from Ford. Once installed, this motor was professionally tuned on a chassis dyno in the car. Fully warmed up, just as you would drive it on a summer day, it made 549 rwhp on the chassis dyno at 6400 rpm, and made over 500 at the wheels from under 5000 all the way to 7000 rpm -- and was still making great power at our rev limiter (7000 rpm).…. The motor made over 400 foot pounds of torque from 2500 rpm all the way to 7000 (peak at 485). That was with only 30 degrees of timing and 12.4 to one a/f ratio for max safety. You could probably squeak out another 30 without doing anything but turning the timing up to 34 and jetting it a tad leaner, closer to 13-1. By comparison a stock LS7 motor in a Z06 made 442 rwhp on the same day -- and the Z06 has taller gearing and another 1000 pounds of weight to drag around. This car has a power to weight ratio of 3.91 lb/hp; compared to 5.33 for the ZR1, and 6.34 for a Z06. In other words, you’ll leave those modern supercars in the dust. One thing I should mention: most Cobra replicas do not run like people think or hope, because it is so hard to put proper fuel delivery, proper exhaust, and proper intakes on these cars with enough hood clearance to make the advertised power. The normal SPF headers can't make anywhere near 600 hp, no matter what the motor is capable of. The normal SPF fuel lines can't make anywhere near that. The normal SPF fuel pump can't make anywhere near that. A normal SPF hood won't allow the motor to make that because the hood barely clears the carburetor, Most “600 horsepower” Cobra replicas, in fact almost ALL of them I have driven, and I've driven dozens, THINK they have 600 horses, but actually make well under 400 due to these challenges. NOT THIS CAR. THIS CAR IS SORTED AND FAST. 427 cubic inches 600 hp @ 6500 rpm (STP), 558 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm (STP) 570 hp @ 6500 rpm (SAE), 530 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm (SAE) Each 427 Aluminum Crate Engine built is dyno tested 11.0:1 compression ratio (nominal) Ford Racing aluminum 4-bolt main block M-6010-Z351 Forged Mahle pistons Forged steel H-beam connecting rods Forged steel crankshaft Solid Roller Cam Intake duration 258 @ .050" intake Exhaust duration 260 @ .050" exhaust Valve lift intake .644" Valve lift exhaust .653" Roller Rocker Arms (1.65:1 ratio) Rocker arm stud girdle Double Roller Timing Chain M-6268-B302 High performance front sump oil pan SFI Approved high performance harmonic balancer Internally Balanced CNC ported Ford Racing aluminum "Z" cylinder heads M-6049-Z304P with 2.08"intake valves and 1.60" exhaust valves (these heads are reported to flow 320 cfm intake and 230 exhaust – with great velocity). All of the parts and labor presently in the car are either brand new (like the fuel ignition systems), or 2 years old (the wiring, motor, trans, etc.). All of the parts on the car have been vetted, tested, and improved over time. I have been through many intakes, carbs, fuel systems, ignition systems, suspension settings, brake parts, etc., and thousands of development hours to get the car to this point, and have stacks of parts that were not quite good enough over the 8 years of development in this car. Just the current parts combination alone, without the development, and without the discarded parts, cost over $100,000.00. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE
