Vehicle Detail
Apologize for the lower light pictures in my garage, the street lights are on by the time I get home nowadays. Up for bid is a 1987 Corvette Convertible project that needs a good home and very little TLC. As an extra, with this auction, is the better looking rounded corner front fascia and (1) Marker light for conversion to the better looking front fascia that came on the later year C4 Style Corvettes. Of course, that will need to be painted to match. This Corvette was a project for me that started in 2005 and continued through the years with many parts purchased and replaced. This car has 85% of the “grunt work” completed with a full 700R4 transmission rebuild (2009) that included upgrades that make it stronger and better shifting than they did in the first years of production. The transmission build included: The Beast Sunshell, Borg and Warner Gears, .500 boost valves, new torque convertor, and a few things that make it operate the way it was designed to. It has a non-stock, no-frills, 350 engine with TPI and cast iron heads that was rebuilt in 2010 with chrome moly rings and top of the line bearings. All emissions in tact. No smoke. Blows cold air in the summer and the heat will drive you out in the winter. Other items replaced through the years include: New or replaced parts: Brake Booster, interior package, door panels, (vinyl) seat covers and foam, lower lumbar bag installed, brand new alternator, various seat switches fan cooling motor, injectors rebuilt and flushed, new seat belts from Ecklers, new arm rest, carpet, floor mats, pioneer radio, headliner and top were replaced in 2006, exhaust---new in ’07 with Walker Y-Pipe, belt and tensionor, and the list goes on. If it was broken, cracked, or split I put it on the list and replaced it as the budget allowed. Replaced within the last few months is the dash cluster- $340.00, Alternator- $120.00, Wiper Blades- Spark plugs and tune up parts including cap, rotor, and wires and many other items. Dash pad is crack free. All lights work. Headlight motors go up and down as they should. Tires have plenty of life left in them. All extra Corvette parts I have stashed in the attic will go with the car. I don’t know what that includes but if it says Corvette on it, it goes! I am out of the Corvette hobby. Car is clean top to bottom. The bad: The stitching on the rear convertible window is coming loose and needs to be re-sewn(see Picture). The front windshield cracked in summer 2011 and since it would not pass state inspection at that point it was parked where it has sat since then. I did get out and run it periodically. Crack runs from drivers side to passenger side so there is no salvaging it. Carpet has light fading on passenger side. Rear deck lid release switch on pass side inoperable; however, driver’s side works fine. Needs sun visors and hardware with vanity lights (stock only came with one vanity light on drivers side but there are provisions for two). Paint is bubbling in various areas. Power steering pump is weak at idle. Battery is a little weak at times when it is cold out. Does hold and take a charge. Needs power antenna or replaced with a solid one. Read before you bid- In order to manage expectations and prevent disappointment please note that this is a project car. The length of this ad should symbolize that I have tried to cover every detail. This car has all of the quirks you would expect from a fiberglass and plastic car that is over 25 years old. I recommend trailer/tow to your home due to the duration it has sat and the fact that it has a cracked windshield. This is a no reserve auction that will start at $2200.00. The car, as it sits right now, is worth double that in parts alone. This car has clear title in my name already signed by me and dated June of 2013. I ended up getting the "wife excuse" from the last local buyer who felt it wasn't in his budget at the last minute which is the reason for the pre-date. Basically the title is open to whoever has it in their hand. All pictures taken on 12/3/2013. Would prefer to take them outside but it has been overcast and I get home late. Car is as-is where is. I will assist in loading of the vehicle. For the tire kickers- Like you, I appreciate cars and dream of the ones I wish I could have. However, I never requested information/pictures on any item I wanted on eBay that I did not have a serious intent to buy. Any discussion with my wife on buying anything in our 27 years together happened well before I started asking questions or bidding on items. I ask that you do the same. With that said, I will not reply to questions that do not directly affect the value or worth of the car overall. (i.e does it go fast etc, etc.) Deposit after the auction is required. Why? Because it prevents people from re-negotiating the deal in your driveway using the “wife excuse” after they won the bid. Momma didn’t raise any fools here. Do your research, cross check the price, bid what you can afford, don’t blow all your Christmas money on cars and parts, and most importantly-- if you don’t want it, or intend to buy, then please click on the next auction.
