Vehicle Detail

This 1998 Monte Carlo Z-34 belongs to my daughter. My Nephew had let the car sit for several years but it was a better car than her Sunfire and both needed work so we fixed up the Monte. The 3.8 practically idles on the highway to earn a 30 mpg highway rating. With 200 hp it doesn't feel like an economy car though. One reason we went with the Monte was a super solid body. The condition of the lower body and floors is amazing. The upper body does have some hail damage including a few spots that turned rusty on the hood plus a small spot of rust below the back window. The front to rear metal fuel and brake lines are rusty, but I have kept them oiled. They should be fairly easy to change as the design has them pretty much running up the middle of the car - easy access. The gas tank is new but when I put the fuel module back in I didn't get it clocked right. The gauge stays on full a long time but the car runs out of gas at 1/2 tank on the gauge. We reset the trip meter and fill up at 300 miles. The AC was checked and the compressor was bad. We replaced the entire system but it has a leak somewhere. See why I want to quit fixing stuff and let someone else do it? I'm too cheap to pay a real mechanic. The Monte has nearly new tires on the back and good tread remaining on the older front tires. The interior is in nice shape with a few carpet stains, and some minor cracking and thinning in the driver seat. It's hard to notice with the perforated leather. The exhaust needs to be replaced soon. This is the special Z34 exhaust and it would be expensive with OEM stuff but a shop like Market Street Muffler in Akron could probably fix you up cheaper and Magnaflow has a stainless system for $845. The ABS light is on solid. The brakes are fine but 1 or more of the ABS sensors is bad so the ABS feature does not operate. The reason that I decided to give up on this car is that it has developed an intermittent stalling problem. It will stall but then start right back up. If you are moving at highway speeds it will restart on it's own, but you may drop 10 mph before it does. It throws a code for the signal to the crankshaft position sensor as well as the left & right bank knock sensors. I was going to start replacing sensors but I'm afraid it could be something in the wiring. That's not a promising description, but this really does have potential to be a very nice car again. I hoped by pricing it above scrap metal I could get it to somebody to afford ably fix up a neat car. The Z34 was the SS of 1998 and it was the sporty top of the line. My description kind of highlights the bad, but this is sold as is with no warranty. Contact me if you would like to view the car before bidding. The car is not at my house so if you make an appointment to see it please show up or give me a little notice if you can't make it. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. Your winning bid is to buy the car, not as a starting price to negotiate when you come to get it. No delivery. You can drive it home. It may be fine, it may stall. I would not recommend highway driving in heavy traffic.
