Vehicle Detail
If you’re looking, you know what this is. Rare (although rarity apparently does not equal value), probably fewer than a few hundred left in country. The prettiest XJ shape, manufactured only 3 years. Like to keep it, but need a new kitchen. Ownership starts with Tom Higgs of Ontario, then in 98 sold to Falconer Jones in Florida, who in 2004 sold it to Robert Jones, from which it appeared to live in Colorado. I have had it since 2008. I have two manuals for it, although honestly most of the work has been done by specialists: Denver Jaguar who inspected the car when I bought it, and Bob Grossman at Mighty Roar Racing. Bob is a retired guy who fettles racing Jags for a group of clients and is very involved in the Colorado Jaguar Association. He works out of a shop in his house and has two XJ6Cs in his plot. The car ran OK when I got it, but starting was hard, and it ran rich. The original Stromberg carbs with the automatic choke were known to be hard to adjust once they fell off factory adjustment. Denver Jaguar installed a manual choke, but then later found Bob and had him install a set of SU carbs. They worked better, looked great. But the bottom end sounded like a bag of bolts, and it was either a short term bottom end rebuild or a full rebuild. I sat on it for about half a year, at which point Bob called and said he had an XJ6 engine he had rebuilt for a client who recently passed. Bought the car with 70k on the clock, it now has almost 74k, with less than a couple hundred miles on the rebuilt engine.SU carb kit by itself is usually $1000-plus, the whole new engine was a bunch more. I only drive it to take my girls to breakfast on the weekend. I don't drive it enough to justify keeping it, despite what I've put into it. I actually think its mechanicals will hold up better if it was started up more often than I have been. Other than the engine, the other good parts: roof vinyl in good shape. Freshly rebuilt alternator with new battery. No rust other than a couple of very small spots (base of A pillar, and by the door mirror, see pictures) . Extra set of Kent wheels and a waterproof cover will be included. Interior is in decent shape, no tears to the leather, dash in good condition, tanks switch. Tool kit is basic, just a wheel wrench and a jack. The headliner is OK, not sagging in the middle like most XJ6s, just a little separating at the front above the windshield. Should be an easy fix. The not so good news: AC does not blow cold. It did, but not after the rebuild. Not sure if there was some refrigerant loss during the rebuild, or if it needs a new condenser. The windows go up and down, albeit a little slowly. The right rear window can be recalcitrant and go down but need some coaxing to make it up. The windows on these are known to be tricky. The clock does not work. This is a common XJ6 fail. The paint on the hood and trunk are a little oxidized; they polish up OK but cloud back over after a bit. A professional cut job should do wonders. I never got it done because I was going to turn it dark metallic grey.... I have service records pretty far back for the prior owners, but I haven't had and driven it enough to have had much. I can get MIghty Roar to provide records for the work he did, although most of it I'm not sure I got an actual invoice for. I hope to accurately represent the condition of the car as best I can. It's an honest driver, not a show car; my intent was to get the mechanicals sorted out before I go nuts on the body and interior, but like I said, I gotta get started on a kitchen. There's just always something to do when you have classic and I can't quite focus on it now. I know I am never come close to getting back what I put into it already, just want a fair price for it. I will work with you in coordinating with a shipper of your choice. $500 paypal deposit, the remainder a money order or cashier’s check please. Thanks for your interest!
