Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1949 Chrysler Windsor 6-cylinder 4-door sedan. I purchased it from an estate, do not know its history but was told it's been stored and not used for many years. I cleaned it up, added fresh fuel, changed oil, put a different battery in it, and it started right up. I've only driven it around the parking lot where it's stored so can't say anything about its road-worthiness. It does not currently have brakes, I'll look into it if I have time. The tires are very old, not good for driving, but do hold air. I'm fairly certain that it's never been repainted, I see no evidence of that. Some of the black paint still shines and looks fairly good if polished. The car is complete from what I can tell other than one tail light lens. It does have some small dings and dents, scratches and some rust as well as pits in the chrome. However, because it's all original, it has great patina! You can see some rust-out on both sides of the body by the trunk lid down near the bumper but it doesn't look too bad to me to repair (see picture). Headlights work, spotlight works, all hubcaps are present. Horn works well - loudest one I've ever heard! It starts easily, runs smooth, exhaust is quiet, moves forward and backwards just fine but I've not driven it over 5-10 mph due to no brakes. Dash looks nice, plastic on the steering wheel has deteriorated and pieces are coming loose. Glass is all there but has started some fogging and delamination in places but certainly useable for now. The interior is useable but does have water stains, I know the car sat outside for a few years. Also, the top of the rear seat cushions has started to split. However, it could be used as is for now. Trunk floor and interior floor look solid to me. It has a clear title in past owner's name. This would be an excellent first car for somebody just getting into the old car hobby, a great "rat rod", a neat old cruiser to hit the car shows in and just plain drive around, or a phenomenal parts car. It has a wonderful "original" look to it, very hard to find in cars this old. Reserve is set low, I bought a different old car to work on this winter. It can be stored up to one month after auction ends if needed but it may be outside. I encourage anyone interested to contact me and arrange for personal inspection.
