Vehicle Detail
Beautiful 911SC - the last of the affordable 911's! "If you want the satisfying thrust of an air-cooled flat-six in a bulletproof package, it's hard to beat the 911SC. These cars are powered with a 3.0-liter six that was a huge step up in reliability from the preceding 2.7-liter unit, and laughed at road salt with their fully galvanized body shells, an industry first. The SC--S for Super, C for Carrera." Hemming's Motor News "While you weren't watching, the 911SC has quietly become one of the greatest all-time Porsche bargains ever." PCA The picture and videos below will do a much better job than I of showcasing this beautiful car. A clean example of one of the iconic classic sports cars - I get looks everywhere I drive this, from young kids pressing their faces against the windows of their parents SUV's to guys who remember these plying the roads of the Hamptons in the early 80's. The car runs like a top. After warming up for a few minutes, it idles perfectly and steadily, and the engine has a nice, throaty sound to it, thanks to the SSI headers. This car does not drip any oil, and although the car itself has just over 225k miles on it (although you could never tell - the interior is super-clean), the previous owner had the engine rebuilt at 195k miles, which included:European pistons and cylindersSSI headersPerformance CamsUpgraded chain tensioners. In addition, the headlights have been upgraded to H4's, new slotted rotors and brakes were recently installed, and the tires have less than 6,000 miles on them, mounted on the original 16" Fuchs. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch feels strong, it brakes well and drives great, either around town or on the highway, effortlessly cruising along. This is a fun car to drive, and unlike anything new in that you feel immediately connected to the car, as a machine, and to the road. My daily driver is a MINI Countryman, and this is a totally different experience. I've owned 4 Porsches, and this is by far my favorite. I get a grin everytime the garage door opens. Car is always garaged and overall the body is in excellent shape. The paint job looks great, even up close, but there are a few spots where you can see imperfections (see pictures). There is also a small assortment of chips and there is a slight ding to the right side of the rear hood - I've taken pictures as best I can. I am being picky here though, as it was even difficult to take pictures of some of those imperfections, but I do not want anyone to be dissapointed. This is not a councourse show winner but rather an excellent daily driver. Most everyting works in the cars - from the headlights and fog lights to the seatbelt buzzer. Instruments work as they should, including the clock, although the speedo reads 10mph too high. The heating controls are iffy - the control box looks great, but it pops out when you slide the levers sometimes. The interior light bulb is out and needs to be replaced, but again, it has not been a concern of mine, which is why it has not been fixed. I don't use the heat or cooling, so it has not been an issue for me. There's an updated Blaupunkt radio, which works great although the power antenna does not work (I've raised it manually when I go on a long drive), but it hasn't been much of a concern for me. The targa top is great, and it fits nicely in the front trunk space. The driver's side seat shows a little wear, but otherwise the interior is in great shape. There are no seatbelts in the rear seats, and one of the short leather seat straps for the rear seat is missing - again, nothing that was a bother for me. Overall, I think the new owner will be pleasantly suprirsed with the condition of this car as long as you understand this is a clean daily driver and not a show car or garage queen. There's nothing that needs to be dont to this car to continue as a daily driver, and I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere. Gets to temperature appropriately and shoots down the road with ease. I am seling the car because of my family situation. We have three small children, and it's just not practical for me at this point. I store it in the garage, so I have the space, but since I can't take my kids (rather, my wife won't let me ;) in it for the indefinite future, I rarely get to drive it. That being said, 911's (and, it seems, all Porsches) are currently appreciating, and my guess is that this car will be even more valuable next spring, so I am in no hurry to sell it. You can barely touch a clean 914 2.0 for less than $8-10k, so to get a beautiful 911 in the $15's is a great deal and well worth it - and a lot more fun to drive than a 4cyl 914. 912's are going for this kind of money, and I can tell you since I owned one, not nearly as fun to drive.
