Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for auction here is a rare, genuine, garage-find 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T Convertible. It is being listed with NO RESERVE. This car will not be listed again; if it does not sell, it goes on the rotisserie. Only 1,220 Coronet convertibles were produced in 1970, most of which were Coronet 500s. Of those, only 236 were R/Ts, and only 203 examples were produced with the 440/4-bbl engine and an automatic transmission. This is one of those 203; a very rare, original, highly-optioned example. Most of the car is still in original paint. I do not think you will find another. The car was found in North Carolina, having been stored since the 80's, and still possesses its clear North Carolina title. The title, VIN tag, door tag, fender tag, radiator support stamping, and trunk lip stamping all match; This is a real R/T. The car is missing its engine and transmission, leaving you free to do as you please in the drivetrain department. A 440 would be correct, but a Hemi might be more fun... The VIN decodes as follows:W = Coronet; S = Special; 27 = Convertible; U = 440/4-bbl; 0 = 1970; G = Built in St Louis; 232437 = Sequence The fender tag decodes as follows:V88 - transverse stripe delete / Y16 - sales bank / G33 - LH remote racing mirror / J25 - 3 speed wipers / J45 - hood pins / M31 - belt moldings / N85 - tachometer / R21 - AM/FM radio / V3X - black convertible top / A36 - performance axle package (3:55 gears) / A62 - rallye instrument package / B51 - power brakes / C16 - woodgrain console / C55 - bucket seats / EB5 - B5 blue exterior color / D6X9 - black trim / TX9 - black interior paint / E86 - 375HP 440/4-bbl engine / D32 - HD automatic transmission / 528 - build date May 28th. ***********Obviously this is a project car needing a complete restoration. The front of the car - from the torsion bar crossmember forward - is quite decent; The cowl is good, the firewall is good, the inner fenders are mostly good, the fender separator is good, the lower valance is a rust-free replacement, and the car includes two rust-free donor fenders (one is on the car, one is not). The rocker assembly is also very good, inside and out. The front frame rails will need a small amount of touch-up but are not junk, and are not rotten at the torsion bars. The floors and trunk are rotted-out and need replacement, as will the trunk extensions and portions of the lower quarters. The rear frame rails are rusted, and will need to be dealt with. This is your typical unrestored Mopar project, but it's a convertible - a very rare one. There's nothing necessary on this car a decent 4-door donor cannot provide you. Even without the engine and transmission, the car is still mostly complete. All of the difficult-to-find convertible-specific parts are present and usable - bows, pumps, linkage, door panels, backseat, trim, etc. The car comes with a spare, rust-free decklid, a new Year One replacement floor, trunk floor, and trunk extensions. The driveshaft is there, original PS pump with cooler, shifter, booster, original Rallye dash w/ 150 mph speedo, and a restorable Tic Toc Tach are all there. Look at the parts photos as they are spread out - side glass, linkages, extra tailights, etc. ********** eBay only allows 24 pictures; for 55 pictures fully documenting the car, click HERE.
