Vehicle Detail
This is a 1970 Chrysler Newport 2 door hardtop. It was purchased new in June of 1970 and I have the original sales receipt. It was kept in the same family until recently. It has never been driven in the snow. It has been stored inside since 2000 and not started or driven. I put new plugs and a new style high performance starter in it and it now starts and drives. It will still need work to be roadworthy, including but not limited to an exhaust leak fixed (the pipe just ahead of the muffler has a hole; there may be other issues that I have not discovered), a new power brake booster, a dimmer switch (which I have purchased and will of course be included). The tires are ancient and are bias ply H78-15. I don't see any obvious rust on the body but I haven't gone over it with a fine toothed comb. The rubber mat in the trunk held moisture and there is a lot of surface rust on the trunk floor and one spot about 2 inches by 6 inches that will need to be patched. All in all it has the potential to be a cheap project. I've only driven it around my lawn but it rides like a cloud. It is a wonderful car. The ONLY reason I'm selling is that I blew my savings on a '57 Bel Air this summer and I would like to start the Corvette Fund once again. If the Chrysler doesn't sell I will likely put it on the road next spring. You are responsible for picking this car up in Northern Maine. If you are the winning bidder I will invoice you for $300 as a non refundable deposit and the balance is due in cash when you pick up the car, no exceptions or negotiation. The car must be picked up within 30 days of the end of auction. If it is not picked up and paid in full, you lose the deposit. It should not be driven in it's present condition; it has to be picked up via transport vehicle. Maine did not require titles on cars until 1975 so there is NO title for this car. I have applied to the State of Maine for a warranty title which they will issue on antique or special interest autos. I've sent in the application and I believe the next step is for them to send someone here to check the car out and make sure it's not stolen, the VIN has not been mucked with, etc. So that part of the equation is still up the air but I'm working on it.
