(Mother and Son documented) A rare gem surfaces from the earth on very rare occasions. Here I have a very original 1970 Dodge Charger 500 with 1.5 owners. Yes, 1.5 owners. Built in Nov of 1969 and purchased new in March of 1970, his mother bought it new and drove it the next 6 years, until she sold it to her Son in Aug of 1976. Keeping the car in a temperature controlled garage its entire life and out of the elements of mother nature is why we have a car preserved in this condition. This 70 Charger is for the true collector and not the weekend warrior or shade tree mechanic looking to hotrod. No offense to them, it’s just a very rare, reserved car which needs to be cared for and honored as such. The Charger still sports it’s 1976 title from the Son, hence the 1.5 owners. Some might argue a 1 owner car. The 70 Dodge Charger is very original. I don't know how to put a percentage on it. This is what has been changed due to regular maintenance or a 22 yr old’s desire in 1976. - Air cleaner – desire - Valve covers – desire, but I have the originals which are in great shape with crayon still on them. In 1976 the 22 yr old wanted chrome - Plugs and plug wires - maint - radiator cap – maint - Per the build sheet and fender tag, the car came with power disc brakes. There is no power booster on the car, however I have 1 used booster and 2 new ones to chose from which came with the car. This could be a Ma Mopar mistake. - Battery - maint - Shocks - maint - Rims and tires - desire. It had the 14" black rims with spoke hub caps or Charger hub caps. I have the rims in great shape and one set of correct hubcaps will go with it. Whatever build sheet shays. - Rear end - desire had a 2:76 open rear. Now sports a 3:23 sure grip. He was 23 when he bought it from his mother in 1975. I have the original rear. - inside the trunk pan was painted correct color. I guess it had got boogered up the first 5 years Mom drove it. NO PATCHES - Am/FM thumb wheel - desire but I have the original AM thumb wheel. - New fuel tank – maint - New exhaust - maint - That's it.. That's all that has been changed that I have found. The Charger starts the first time every time. It does not have any leaks or smoke. The car drives straight as an arrow, smooth, no floating and not 1 squeak when cruising. Below is a description of the condition of the car. I will attempt to reveal everything I can and know. Exterior – 1) The car still wears its original high impact Lemon Twist paint, a $14 option upgrade. Never wrecked, no rust, no filler. The car has about 12-15 door dings between both sides ranging from a chip to the size of a quarter, with 2 on each side of the most forward area of the front fender. I imagine Mother may have touched the side of the garage or the car in the next parking spot. I whole heartedly believe that the paint-less dent repair guys can massage these out. I’ve seen them in action and it is a true art. I think the new owner should take this route and not repaint the car. It only wears “original paint” one time in its life. 2) No rust or rust repair anywhere. 3) The floor pans and frame work are incredible. No under coating except for the wheel wells, you can tell this car was well taken care of and not driven in the elements. The frame doesn’t even have any dents of dings from auto lifts or jacks. Perfectly square corners. Just incredible. 4) The vinyl top is original and in superb condition. It does not need replaced. There are 2-3 small lumps beneath it at the edges, but smaller then a nickel or dime and would not touch it. 5) The rear panel below rear window between window and trunk is near flawless. Other than a small low spot from a basketball, which can certainly be massaged out, there is not rust or bubbling. This area is a common problem on Chargers. Not this one. 6) Doors have no sag and shut nice and solid. All body panels are gapped perfectly or as perfectly as they came from the factory. It’s a very symmetric car. 7) Chrome – Front bumper is driver quality and rear bumper is much nicer. All bright work is on great shape. Front vent window chrome has very very minor freckles appearing. 8) Rims and tires in great shape. Although not original to the build sheet or car, look very nice. With no cracking and plenty of tread. Original rims and hub caps go with the car. 9) All glass and rubbers are in good shape. No scratches on the glass or dry rot on the weather strips or rubbers. Nice and soft. Interior: 1) Dash and gauge cluster look like new. All gauges work as well as the horn. 2) Glove box light is out. I’m sure it’s the bulb. 3) Original door panels in great shape. Maybe a light cleaning needed. Same with arm rests, but it does come with a new set of arm rests. 4) Carpet is original and looks nearly new. Lack of sunlight and moth balls preserved this interior. 5) Drivers seat has two small rips – photo. All other seats in great shape. 6) Head liner and back dash perfect. 7) The center console shows like new, bright work and plastics in incredible shape. Drive train: 1) Matching numbers 383 2bbl motor and 727 auto transmission all perform perfectly. 2) Some engine components not original due to maintenance and desire. See above. 3) Rear end changed to a 3:23 sure grip. Comes with the original 2:76 center chunk. Suspension: 1) New shocks all the way around. 2) Original leaf springs 3) Front end - tough to tell. Super clean and very well could be original. No squeaks, floating or looseness. 4) Drives and brakes straight as an arrow. The car has the fender tag. Unfortunately, the original build sheet, window sticker and brochure do not come with the car; however I do have copies of them. The Son said he would look for them, but I feel like they may have been kept as memorabilia. I explained they should live with the car just as a person does with a birth certificate. On Sep-21-13 at 08:05:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Some updates: 1) Build sheet says power disk brakes. In the photo there is not power booster or master cylinder. This was removed as a preference. The car comes with it's original power booster and master cylinder and all associated lines. I found them in a box labeled. "Still good". These were removed because Mother or Son did not like the feel of them. 2) There are (qty 5) 60 spoke original hub caps which come with the car. 4 are in incredible condition and 1 has 2 small dings. 3) I am taking real an genuine offers over the phone only.
