1983 Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8)-I have been building this Jeep (slowly) for over 5 years. I have made a lot of improvements and custom fabrication. I will try to write everything I’ve done but if you have any questions, please e-mail me. First the drive line; In January of this year, I just put in an AMC 304 that I got from a 1978 CJ-5. The engine was completely rebuilt professionally with all new parts (I have the receipts). Again, I will try to list all the parts: M.O.R.E. bomb proof motor mounts, DUI distributer with new plugs and wires, Edelbrock intake manifold, Be Cool aluminum radiator, Flex-a-lite dual electric fans, Omix valve covers and air cleaner, new oil pan and pick up, Edelbrock 750 carb, Hedman headers (with Stage 8 locking fasteners), timing cover and gaskets, timing chain, water pump and all new belts, hoses and filters. The transmission is a turbo 400 that came from the same 1978 CJ-5 as the engine. It was completely rebuilt and a transmission cooler added in November of 2008. It has less than 3000 miles since the rebuild. In January of this year, transmission was serviced with Amsoil fluid, new filters, new polyurethane mounts and a new M.O.R.E. cross member. The transfer case is the stock CJ-8 case that was also rebuilt in January. The body; when I bought the Jeep in 2008, the previous owner had the hood come up while he was driving. I replaced the hood with a rust free hood from a 1978 CJ-5. I bought a new windshield, gasket and windshield frame from 4WD. There is no rust on this jeep at all. The previous owner went through the entire Jeep and had all the rust cut out new metal put in and had it professionally painted. The Jeep is kept in my garage and the paint and body has held up great. When I got it, I changed it from a pickup truck style to a more classic Jeep look. I ditched the top and cut out the metal separating the cab from the bed. I had a custom roll cage put in and replaced the two front seats. I added 2 bench seats in the back and put in all new seat belts so now it can carry six passengers. I have the original hard doors for the Jeep. They have several rust spots and need to be restored. I also have the matching Warn rear bumper and tire carrier that I have not installed yet. I DO NOT have a top for this Jeep. I have always kept this in my garage and have never needed a top in South Florida. I’ve listed below all the odds and ends that I’ve done to the Jeep since I bought it. I love this Jeep! Everywhere I go people comment on my Jeep. I have spared no expense on repairs and upgrades. It KILLS me to sell this Jeep. I know I’ll never have another one like it.
