Vehicle Detail

Offered for auction, as is, and without warranty, is my 1939 Packard series 1701 4 dr. sedan in operating condition, needing almost total restoration. The 1701 series Packard is an 8 cylinder straight in-line engine with a 3-speed tranny. The Packard was previously titled in Ohio, and I'm the 4th owner for the last 7 years. The odometer reads around 58,000 and is supposed to be correct. According to the broker I bought the car from, the previous owner used it as a parade car in the Cincinnati area. I had the Packard repainted 2 years ago and started the turn signal installation (not finished). It has a chrome air-horn (whistle) attached to the intake manifold, installed by the previous owner. The heater works but the radio and clock does not. The grill vent bars are fully open and the closing function doesn't work on cool down..The tires are 4-ply 16 inch with porta-walls (like new); there is no spare tire, just an original jack. The glass is cloudy in some areas and the chrome has scratches, small amounts of surface rust, pitting, but the chrome is shinny. If you can, come and see and drive the car in person before you place a bid. The successful bidder must pay a non-refundable $100.00 deposit within 24 hours after auction close. The balance of the closing auction price is due in 7 days, in cash or certified bank check with proper ID., prior to title transfer and transporting the Packard to your location.Ask questions about this old Packard before you place a bid, thanks for looking, see my other auction, and good luck bidding. On Jul-26-13 at 06:31:35 PDT, seller added the following information: The widow rubber-seals have some dry/brittle cracking in some areas. The body re-paint was actually done about 5 years ago. I'll be glad to answer any questions about the car. Good Luck Bidding.. On Jul-26-13 at 12:21:02 PDT, seller added the following information: Over the last 7 years, other than having the body painted, changing a leaking inner-tube and adding a vintage oil-cartridge housing, changing oil (engine and oil-bath air cleaner), spark plugs, points, rotor, new battery, and adding 2 vintage turn signal lights on the front bumper (internal wiring not finished), there has not been any work done to the engine, exhaust system, transmission, brakes, rear diff., suspension, or running boards. The engine isn't started often and does smoke some but does not overheat. I suspect the rings and valves, brakes, and glass should be rebuilt or changed to make this old Packard a reliable driver... As requested, internal upholstery and headliner pics. will be posted this evening. Thanks for the questions. Gary (zieska) On Jul-28-13 at 13:41:57 PDT, seller added the following information: As to last questions asked today, as far as I know, the engine # (B3904425 -- 282 cu ") and the 3 speed transmission are original to the car. I'm not aware of any bondo-type repair done to the body (body lines/surfaces were straight and had no dents). However, there was some inside-the-wheel-well structural support repair to the right front fender. The 6 volt positive ground charging system functions normally, as well as the headlights, tail lights, steering and brakes (including the emergency brake). Pictures of the Packard's ID plate and some additional engine area shots have been added. The stamped-in numbers are as follows: VIN = 1292-3635, Serial? = 121638. There is what appears to be a dealer's name on the ID plate? (can't read it), followed by 'CINCINNATI, OHIO'. Thanks for your questions. - zieskaOn Jul-30-13 at 15:36:57 PDT, seller added the following information: As to the payment questions received today, I assume you are asking about the non-refundable US $100.00 deposit from the successful bidder; I prefer only PayPal for that deposit. The balance of the closing auction price (via US certified bank check or cash), is due from the successful bidder in person with ID, prior to title transfer and transport from my property in Minnesota. Final payment (as specified above) should be made within 7 days of auction close. However, I'll work with you on the time issue for final payment.... Thanks for your questions and good luck bidding. On Jul-30-13 at 16:28:47 PDT, seller added the following information: In fairness to all prospective bidders, I will not disclose the exact reserve price; however, the reserve amount is below the low end of the NADA price range for 1939 Packard series 1701 collector cars.
