Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1992 BMW 325i First year of the E36 style. Car starts right up, runs, and drives but will need some TLC to be a daily driver. I bought it with intentions of teaching my daughter to drive stick but due to the recent change in Maryland driving age, she has another 2 years before she can drive and it makes no sense for it to sit in the driveway. I bought the car from a college student who paid way too much for it and spent thousands in parts and labor to get it to pass Maryland's strict 186 point safety inspection back in November 2012. He used it for 10K miles and realized he couldn't afford premium gas and premium insurance and could not keep up with the maintenance a BMW requires. In Maryland, this car can be registered as historic, because it is over 20 years old, which costs less in insurance and registration and does not require a safety or emissions inspection. Here is what I was told or know about the car from the previous owner: At some point prior to him buying it, he told me both the engine and transmission were replaced from a junkyard so although the body shows 167K, the engine and trans are mileage unkown (the engine is marked around with around 40K so I have to assume the mileage is lower than that of the body). Clutch is good Engine seems to run fine with no major noises or anything else concerning Transmission is a 5 speed but the shifter is a little weird. You can shift fine through all the gears but it just seems like the stick is too long and you touch the dash in R, 1, 3, and 5th gears. Just takes a few minutes to get used to. Previous owner told me it was that way when he got it and other than getting used to it, it has no impact on the way the car drives. Dash in front of shifter is loose and the on-board computer screen is unreadable due to being pixelated Headlights and markers were replaced with after market 1 piece Halo kits Power locks work but are quirky None of the 4 power windows or sunroof open which leads me to believe the comfort module relay is blown and will need replacement (I don't know for sure so it could be something else but this is my guess based on previous BMW experience) The right turn signal blinks fast so at least one bulb is out somewhere The headlight switch rotates all the way around so you kind of have to fiddle with it to find where the lights turn off. Previous owner replaced the alternator, battery, and multitudes of other parts including the entire radiator assembly and coolant hoses. He broke the fan blade in the process and I have a new replacement fan blade assembly that goes with the car but I do not have the tools to install it. Given the excessive heat we have had, you can only go a few miles before it overheats because the fan has to be installed. A/C, heat, and blower all work but A/C is not cold and should be recharged. There is also no fan blade attached to the auxiliary A/C coolant fan assembly so although the motor comes on, it isn't cooling anything. I would recommend replacing that as well and you can find the parts for under $100 on eBay. The car has a substantial shake and vibration at times over about 40 MPH. The car needs at least a left front tie rod and right front control arm based on mechanic receipts the previous owner left in the car. I would just buy the whole kit for $150 on eBay and replace the entire front end suspension, do an alignment and balance all 4 tires and be done with it. Car is due for an oil and filter change. Don't think it needs a tune-up but whenever I buy a car, that's the first thing I do anyway. Car has aftermarket exhaust that sounds pretty good. Interior seat leather condition is surprisingly nice with no rips or tears I could find but the carpets and leather could use a good cleaning. Several loose trim pieces inside the car (especially on the door panels where someone thought to take them off to fix the window issue instead of looking at electrical issues) and the sunroof headliner has been removed for reasons unkown. The car doesn't leak anywhere that I have found though. Brakes seem to work fine and no ABS light or other check engine lights stay on. Tires are OK and will last the remainder of the summer but should be replaced before winter in my opinion. ADR 5 spoke rims are nice touch to the car but all four have some form or another of curb rash Car was originally Mauritius Blue Metallic but some idiot painted it black and did a lousy job. Paint is peeling and bubbling in many areas and orange peeled over most of the car. Car is a good 20 footer but up close, you want to wring someone's neck for painting over the blue with a cheap black paint job. Car has a working aftermarket Pioneer Stereo system The hand tools in the trunk emergency kit are all missing but the jack is there as well as a full size spare tire. Original owner's manual and one key included in sale along with a Chilton repair manual Clear signed title ready for transfer to new owner All in all, the car won't take much to be a good daily driver or the basis of a track car. I tried to list everything I know or have found out about the car in the roughly 20 miles I have driven it in the interest of full disclosure and so you know what you are buying. It will need a little work but could definitely give you years of reliable driving if you put the time and effort into it. I am just trying to get what I spent on it back. Nothing more, nothing less. Car is as is where is with no warranties expressed or implied. You will need to tow it home and install the fan blade before you can drive it any distance but you can come and look and drive it around the block if you want. Just call me to schedule a time (301-633-8116). $500 non-refundable deposit upon auction close or with Buy it Now. Don't waste my time and I won't waste yours. Don't click Buy it Now and then come out and expect to haggle. I've listed everything I know and been as honest about the car as humanly possible. Do not expect to fly here and drive it home to Alaska. It will need some work but is a good cheap starting point if you like the classic E36 body style and you want a BMW but don't want to spend $50K. I can help with getting it loaded onto a transport truck if you want to have it shipped somewhere (and I know a couple of reliable transport companies) but all shipping is the buyers expense. Thanks for looking and Good Luck Bidding! At this price, it won't last long so bid now and bid often!
