Vehicle Detail
f Beautiful 1988 Jaguar XJS Convertible built by Hess & Eisenhardt coachbuilders. Only a handful of these Jaguars were ever commissioned to Hess & Eisenhardt and this is one of them. You can read more history below From 1986 a full convertible version was available through some dealers, modified by Hess & Eisenhardt in the USA. The Hess & Eisenhardt coachbuilding firm was located in Ohio, USA, and built about 893 of these cars under contract from Jaguar before the official Jaguar-built XJS full convertible appeared in 1988. The Hess & Eisenhardt convertible differed from the later Jaguar convertible XJS as its unpadded top folded down deeper into the body structure of the car resulting in a cleaner rear profile when the roof was lowered. In order to accommodate this design element, the Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles have two separate fuel tanks, positioned to allow for the roof to fully retract. The process of converting the stock Jaguar XJS coupé into the H&E Convertible included the post-production removal of the roof, cutting the body in several sections, the addition of steel reinforcements behind the driver's seat, and 20 lb (9.1 kg)Template:Convert/track/abbr/onTemplate:Convert/track/adj/ weights placed just behind the headlights to eliminate harmonic resonance caused by the significant modifications to the car. H&E XJS convertibles are easily identified by the lower folding top, as well as two small badges located just behind the front wheels. The later Jaguar full convertible had a heavier padded top that did not fold into as small a bundle when in the lowered position, but retained nearly all of the original components of the coupé. The number of H&E Jaguar XJS produced is unknown, partly because a fire at the Hess & Eisenhardt factory destroyed most of the records pertaining to the Jaguar XJS conversions. This particular car is beautiful to look at and even nicer to drive. It has been babied its whole life with only 41000 original miles. (Carfax available if requested). 5.3L engine V12 gives you plenty of power to drive you anywhere you want. Scale the hills of Tuscany or simply drive yourself to Olive Garden, you will be the envy of your neighbors whatever you decide to do. Beautiful older paint job, looks good from even as close as 5 feet away but there are a few blemishes if you get 1-2 feet. Interior has beautiful burlwood finish. Nice dash top. All gauges work. No engine lights come on. STARTS UP EVERYTIME. Seats and leather are soft with minor stiching needed on drivers seat. Dashtop is perfect. We do believe one of the brake light bulbs may be out. A top was installed a few years ago. The power top function works flawlessly, and falls back into the deeper soft top compartment to not obstruct your view of the road behind you. This is a turnkey car with only minimal issues needed Comes with a nice boot cover, extra spare and original tool kit in the trunk. Car does have a few cosmetic issues but nothing that detracts from the beauty of this car. Sold as-is, how-is with right to inspect. No warranties expressed or implied. This is a 25 year old car so please expect some typical issues that may need attention for a car of this age. We can help with delivery to all 48 lower states and even overseas.
