Vehicle Detail
It's time to move on.....up for auction is my 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible. As you can see in the pictures it is Springtime Yellow with an Emberglo interior and black convertible top. Here are the details of the car: Rebuilt FE 390ci .0030 over from Mardinly Enterprises in PA. Approximately 300hp rebuilt in 2009. Less than 2000 miles on rebuild New MP brakes power disc front brake conversion with new power master cylinder and new speed bleeder valves installed at all four corners (2010) All new front brake hard lines and hoses (2010) Completely new front end inc. upper & lower ball joints, all control arm bushings, tie rod ends, sway bar link bushings (2010) New PST oversized front sway bar, sway bar links and bushings (2010) New KYB Gas-A-Just shocks at all four corners (2010) New Broader Performance C6 automatic transmission with wide ratio first gear for better off the line performance and floor mounted B&M shifter (2010) Custom hand brazed 2200rpm stall converter by Jay at Broader Performance (2010) New Holley 650cfm carb with electric choke (2009) Custom intake through hood scoop with functioning turn signal indicators on back side of intake (facing windshield) Edelbrock Performer 390 aluminum intake Faron Rhodes custom curved motorcraft distributor with pertronix (2011) FPA headers (2010) New exhaust crossover pipe (2011) Flowmaster mufflers (2009) New Firehawk Indy 500 tires (2009) New Cragar SS chrome wheels (2009) New Ron Cooke High Torque “Hitachi Style” starter motor with heat shield (2010) Finned Aluminum valve covers New tachometer installed on steering column. (2012) Ford 9” rear end open 3.00 ratio Aluminum cross flow radiator, trans cooler I want to be completely honest with the description of this car as I want the buyer to be completely satisfied. This car is a pleasure to drive….the car moves quite nicely for heavy car thanks to the custom curved distributor and the wide ratio 1st gear on the transmission and stops quickly and true with the power disc brakes. Everything works on the car, even the idiot lights with the exception of the reverse lights (they need to be integrated to the transmission) and the clock. The AM radio is not wired so I cannot comment on its functionality…I preferred the music offered by the big block V8 breathing through the flowmasters. Everything on the front end of this car is brand new. An alignment was performed after I finished the front end by Bevacquas Garage in Boonton, NJ. They also installed the Broader Perf C6 trans. This car has lived a garaged life while it has been with me and treated to high zinc oil and Ford Motorcraft FL1A filters. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere…it is very reliable and has absolutely no overheating issues. The engine has great power and 75psi at startup and 60psi at operating temperature. Current I am running 18 degrees initial and 34 total timing for reference. If you were to drive it home in rain I would recommend blocking the scoop inlet so as not to soak the air cleaner. The convertible top works perfectly….the top was dyed black by the previous owner….it was originally white. The trunk has a full size spare on an alum rim and several extra trim and gasket pieces included. There is a full set of split fold bench seat trim in the trunk as well. I was going to switch the car back to the correct low back split front bench seats and have a correct lower bench seat frame and all the trim which goes with the car if you want it. I have just run out of time and finances to continue my obsession with this car. The car was resprayed in springtime yellow shortly before I purchased it….the driver’s side body was done right….the passenger’s side lower quarter body work right before the rear wheel well was done by someone who deserves to have their hands broken. I always intended to put the correct lower rocker panels on the car which would hide that body work but I just never got around to it. The paint is nice but has a few small imperfections. If you would like better more detailed pictures email me. This is not a show car…it is a very nice driver. I always get a ton of compliments and questions about it. The power steering has a very slow leak…another thing I meant to address but it has never even needed to have fluid added to it in the 3+ years I have owned it so it still leaks slowly. Also included if the buyer wants is the original drum brake front spindles, original ford distributor and brand new Napa gold starter (which will not fit the car with the FPA headers). I'm sure I have forgotten quite a bit of the details of the sweat and $ equity I have invested in this car. I will add more as I think of it. I hope I have not been too critical of the old Gal....she is a great car that can still turn some heads. Please ask all your questions now and come kick the tires before you bid....I want the winning buyer to be nothing but happy with this purchase. $500 deposit due 48 hours upon winning auction. All shipping costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. The personalized license plates do not go with the car. Car is for sale locally and can be seen in person in Parsippany, NJ 07054 Email me with any questions…..I am going to try and post a video of it running. I have set the reserve at what I feel is a fair price for this car...it is substantially less than what I have in it of course. On Jun-03-13 at 09:59:00 PDT, seller added the following information: All receipts for all work & parts are available upon request. All windows work (sorry no picture with the windows up) and seal The dash pad needs to be replaced as can be seen in pictures......the steering wheel has the usual cracks that these cars have..horn works On Jun-03-13 at 12:40:03 PDT, seller added the following information: http://youtu.be/xeSjH7UQ1QM Video of car running and exhaust note On Jun-04-13 at 03:08:54 PDT, seller added the following information: In response to specific questions: 1. The bumpers are perfect, the headlight bezels are perfect, the trim around the windshield is stainless. The trim around the windows is chrome and could use some love. The grill is aluminum and is original. 2. The only exterior trim pieces that come with the car are what you see pictured. The previous owner was looking for the clean look and did not reinstall them and I do not have them. I liked the clean look as well and did not attempt to locate the body trim pieces. 3. The car has no over heating issues....it will run all day and never top 190 degrees....the aluminum radiator was added by the previous owner...it is substantially larger than the stock unit it replaced. 4. The trans is a new unit from Broader Performance in Texas. They have a website you can visit to get the details of the trans. It replaced a tired a C6....the car originally came with a cruis-o-matic from the factory behind a 352ci big block. I replaced the C6 because it truly lived up to the name "slushbox". The new Broader Perf wide ratio C6 shifts firm and is built to handle up to 500hp. It is a new transmission and torque converter that I had installed in the car....not a used trans from some other project. 5. The distributor is a hand curved unit built by Faron Rhodes with Pertronix guts of Total Performance Enterprises of PA. He takes into consideration your trans, vehicle weight, torque converter stall speed, gear ratio and tire size when he re-curves your distributor. I believe it is the single best performance upgrade I made to the car....it really brought the bottom end of the car to life. Faron is a well known and respected FE engine timing specialist. The original ford motorcraft distributor also comes with the car. 7. The tires have less than 1000 miles on them. The rears are 275/60/R15 Firestone Indy 500's which is the largest tire you can comfortably get in the wheel well. The tires have just been re-balanced On Jun-04-13 at 05:47:51 PDT, seller added the following information: more answers: 1. The frame is absolutely solid and rust free...the torque boxes (which can be seen in one of the pictures) are 100% solid. 2. There is one small bubble smaller than the size of a dime on the lower part of the drivers side door.....that is the only visible rust anywhere on the body. The driver's side of the car had new metal welded in (I have pictures from the previous owner). There is a small scratch about an inch long by the antenae base and there is a small hairline crack on the rear deck above the trunk by the convertible top boot. There are a few small rub marks from me trying to squeeze by the car in the garage on the rear fender that could probably be buffed out...they are too minor to see in the pictures. The car looks like it was just painted yesterday from 10 feet away. If you were to add on all of the body trim pieces that were original to the car it would hide almost all the imperfections as they mostly reside in the wheel lips and rocker panel areas.... The body holes were filled by the previous owner. If you want detailed high resolution pictures of any part of the car email me at burkeb@optonline.net or better yet come see the car in person. 3. No the aspect ratio of the pictures aren't altered....the car is low and long (hence the double entendre meaning of my license plate). 4. The interior is not original.....I believe it is a complete kit from Auto Krafters...there are no rips/tears anywere on any of the seats or the door panels. The front seat is actually a power unit but it is not wired. The extra bench front seat that comes with the car is the correct low back split front bench (no uppers included) and all the trim for it is in the trunk. The seats are comfortable and the high back is nice if you want some head support. On Jun-04-13 at 09:16:08 PDT, seller added the following information: more answers: 1. Yes the fuel gauge, headlights, turn signals including indicators on dash and on back of hood scoop all work. 2. The transmission is a 3 speed C6 automatic built by Broader Performance in Texas.....it does not have overdrive....but with the wide ratio first gear you get good off the line performance and with the 3.00 rear end ratio you can comfortably cruise on the highway at 70 mph at about 2300 rpm. I can't really comment on fuel economy.....maybe 12-14 mpg around town....maybe 16 on the highway....see my license plate for more details. Seriously anyone considering buying a 47 year old car that weighs 4500lbs as a daily driver with a big block V8 AND being concerned with fuel economy might want to look elsewhere. 3. I never noticed before but yes the driver's door looks like it could use some adjustment to make the lines match up perfectly....thank you for pointing that out....I can promise you that you won't see that from the driver's seat. 4. There are 6 sets of seat belts (3 front, 3 rear). I actually had 2 kids seats in the back seat for my daughters....there is plenty of rear leg room....it is a BIG car. 5. The indicated mileage of 74,376....yes it could be 174,376...I'm sure if you did some research you could find that out.....I've listed the VIN # so have at it. On Jun-06-13 at 05:34:54 PDT, seller added the following information: The engine.....the engine was rebuilt by Mardinly Enterprises in PA back in 2009 by the previous owner. It was bored .0030. I have the original receipt from the rebuild which was done by the previous owner. I have called Mardinly to try and get specific details on the rebuild but all I could get out of them was 9.5 to 1 compression and an estimate of 300hp. I would not doubt that power figure....you can incinerate the big rear tires (well tire at least as it is an open diff rear end). As I stated before the engine runs strong and smooth...it has 75 psi on start up and 60 psi when warm all day long at idle. There are zero leaks on the engine. It has been treated to oil changes every 6 months with Brad Penn Semi Synthetic high zinc oil (it is green in color) and Ford Motorcraft FL1A filters. Absolutely no issues with the engine at all. When I purchased the car it has a 750 DP holley on it and ford motorcraft distributor.....I put a new 650 cfm Holley on it with hard line Mr Gasket dual feed gas line with pressure guage and a 1" phenolic carb spacer to get the air cleaner up into the hood scoop and upgraded the ignition with a Faron Rhodes custom curved motorcraft distributor. Door tag info - unfortunately the door tag data plate was removed prior to me getting the car....most likely it was removed when the car was repainted back in 2009 by the previous owner. Interior - again it is a new aftermarket interior installed by the previous owner. It looks like the ford emberglo interior color but as it is aftermarket (Auto Krafters I believe) it may not be actually Ford emberglo. The interior is super nice as you can see in the pictures....no rips or tears anywhere. Some of the hard panels (kick area, convertible top sides in back seat) are the original pieces to the car I believe. The dash needs to be replaced (you can get a new black dash pad for $149 from Auto Krafters) Hula Monkey - yes the monkey comes with the car....it would be bad karma to remove him....he came with the car when I got it and he will go with the car to it's new home. The car was originally a 352 V8 big block, Cruis-o-matic, power steering, power drum brake, Emberglo exterior.
