I ASKED HIM IF IT WAS A FLARE SIDE BECAUSE IF IT WAS I WASN’T INTERESTED. STEVE TOLD ME THAT THIS TRUCK BELONGED TO HIS BROTHER-IN-LAW AND IT HAD BEEN IN THEIR FAMILY FOR THE LAST FORTY YEARS. THIS IS A SURVIVOR! IT HAS 99% OF EVERYTHING THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK WHEN IT WAS BUILT STILL ON THE TRUCK. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT HAD AN ALUMINUM TOPPER ON THE TRUCK AND IT ALSO WAS SITTING IN A FARM MACHINERY SHED. THE TRUCK HAS THE ORIGINAL 327 V8 THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK IN IT. IT RUNS AND IT RUNS WELL. WE REPLACED ALL OF THE SPARK PLUG WIRES, THE CAP AND ROTORS, PLUGS, AND THE GAS TANK. THEN WE FILLED IT UP WITH NEW GAS AND IT STARTS AND RUNS PERFECT. THE ONLY NOISES COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS A NOISY POWER STEERING PUMP. THE WATER PUMP, HOSES, AND RADIATOR HOLD PRESSURE AND THERE ARE NOT LEAKS. IN FACT, THERE ARE NO LEAKS COMING FROM THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, OR REAR DIFFERENTIAL. TO BE PERFECTLY CLEAR THIS IS A 2-WHEEL, NUMBERS MATCHING 327 V8, NUMBERS MATCHING MANUAL TRANSMISSION, AND THE ORIGINAL BODY PANELS, SUSPENSION, BRAKES, ETC. THE WOOD IN THE BED OF THIS TRUCK CAN BE SANDED DOWN AND STAINED. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE TRUCK NEEDS SOME MINOR SHEET METAL REPLACEMENT. THE TOTAL COST OF THE SHEET METAL WAS A LITTLE OVER $700 FROM LMC TRUCKS. LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS. IT IS AMAZING TO ME THAT THIS TRUCK COULD HAVE THE ORIGINAL CHROME BUMPERS STILL ON IT WITH BOTH OF THEM PERFECTLY STRAIGHT. IT APPEARS THAT AT SOME POINT IN IT’S LIFE THE BIG REAR WINDOW WAS REMOVED AND THE OWNER HAD ONE OF THOSE HAND MADE PASS THROUGH VINYL BOOTS BETWEEN THE TRUCK CAB AND THE TOPPER OR CAMPER. THE PREVIOUS OWNERS ALSO STARTED CUSTOMIZING THE TRUCK A LITTLE. THERE IS A SMOOTH “SKIN” THAT HAS BEEN WELDED OVER THE BACK OF THE TAILGATE SO YOU NO LONGER SEE THE INDENTATION OR THE WORDS CHEVROLET. THEY ALSO HAD MADE SMALL LATCHES TO HOLD THE TAILGATE SHUT. IT STARTS, IT SHIFTS, AND IT BRAKES. IF YOU WERE EVER LOOKING FOR A FLEETSIDE TRUCK TO START A RESTORATION ON OR SLAM THIS BAD BOY ON THE GROUND AND LET YOUR IMAGINATION GO WILD, THIS IS THE TRUCK YOU SHOULD START WITH. THE ONLY ORIGINAL ITEM THAT IS MISSING IS THE PASSENGER BOX SIDE. THE UPPER CHROME MOLDING HALF OF IT IS MISSING. CURRENTLY I HAVE (3) 55 CHEVROLETS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. ONE OF EACH 67, 68, and 69 CAMAROS UNDER CONSTRUCTION WITH THE 68 AND 69 COMING IN AT $80K BUILDS. I ALSO HAVE A 1936 BUICK, 1971 K5 BLAZER, AND A 1961 IMPALA WHICH IS A $125K BUILD.
