Vehicle Detail

This car was built in the San Jose, CA Ford Assembly Plant and spent some of its' life in Iowa (where I bought it in 2006). The car has tons of potential. It could be restored to the "handyman-type" vehicle it was born as. It could be street rodded - or a one of a kind custom. Think of it restored with your company's name on the rear panels ... very cool ! I bought it from a dealer in Fort Dodge, Iowa (Bowers Brothers Motors) and they are still well-established in Fort Dodge. There should be little trouble getting title as the dealer is very reputable and was a bifg help to me. They made it a very smooth transaction - very nice folks. Their website is http://bowersbrothersmotors.com/ . The dealer had it for a very short time - but his friend had it for 35 years. It has not been licensed in over 40 years. I purchased it on a bill of sale as the title was lost sometime during the 35 year ownership of the previous owner. This is a very rare car - see the rear hatch hinge and three piece glass. Engine and Transmission. Neither is there. According to the data plate the car was a 272 V8 with a Ford-O-Matic transmission. This is a rare combination as most Couriers were utility vehicles and were probably 6-cylinders with sticks. The car also has no radiator or drive shaft. Paint. Originally code (L) ... Doeskin Tan ... but now it is in Urethane Primer. Interior It's not there either, however the hard to find passenger seat floor bracket is in the car as well as the Carnish Moldings and Headliner Bows. Dash is stock and uncut. The original cardboard side panels are still in the back and will make good patterns. Glass It's all there. The impossible to find tailgate three piece window is ok. Side glass needs to be replaced - but the windshield is ok as far as I recall. Chrome The stainless trim is a combination of good or restorable. Grille is straight with original chrome. The front bumper is included - but it's bent. Rear bumper needs plating and repair. Frame and Suspension Frame and cross members appear solid. Rear end appears original. Steering box feels tight. Brakes don't work and are missing parts. Car rolls fine and tires hold air. I was told that 416 Couriers were built in 1957. 322 are believed to be 6-cylinder cars and 94 were V8's. Another 55 were sold to the U.S. Government with small windows in the side panels - they were all six cylinder cars. It is believed that over 50 years, one can expect 1% to 2% survival rate of cars produced. Remember - these were built to be used as utility vehicles and were likely not babied. There may be less than 10 of these still around - just a guess. I believe all the parts that are unique to this car are still here. I am including a nice set of Courier "badges" that will look great on the car. The body work was started but never completed. Someone put factory repair/patch panels on the rear quarters and rockers. The tailgate will need rust and dent repair as well as the panel below the tailgate. The latch handle and parts are inside the car. The tailgate hinges and support arm are all operable and on the car. The right fender came off of a Fairlane and has trim holes that will need to be welded up. The hood has a dent on the right front. The front fenders will need patch panels on the rear bottoms. The front floors were patched years ago - but I would suggest redoing them since the correct sheet metal is now available. The tunnel and toe kick areas look to be ok. The rear floors in the storage bin area are quite good. The storage bin lids work fine and all of the impossible to find hardware is here. The spare tire well has a hole in it. The top is straight and the side panels are very nice. Buyer is responsible for shipping. A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of close of auction, with the balance within 7 days. Serious potential bidders can reach me on my cell at (916) 952-5402 .
