Vehicle Detail

I am reluctantly selling my 1959 Rambler American 2-door sedan due to my impending move to my home out west. It was my intention to keep this car as it is possibly my favorite go to get ice cream and a local cruise car. Alas I can't keep all my toys. I would like to see this really original 44K mile car go to a fellow collector and not a hot-rodder. So few of these cars have survived let alone a real, rust free, original interior car. I have a huge file of photos for this car. Please e-mail me and I will send them to you. This car is truly rust free. It has never had any welding, all original floors and has never been dis-assembled. Most of the car still has the original "tar" type under-coating used in the 1950's and 1960's. The doors close easily with one finger. It has been re-finished in the correct colors of "Frontenac Gray" and "Aladdin Gray." I bought the car already painted. It does shine well but as it is an older paint job it is not perfect. A few chips, very minor scratches and the like. After I bought the car I had the bumpers, door handles and most exterior trim re-chromed. This was a very expensive bit of work as these cars had very poor chrome from new. I found a NOS grill and badge as it seems every car has sustained damage. All in all I would say this is really one of the nicest American's in existence. The interior is totally original with the exception of the front rubber floor mat. I many years in the AMC/Rambler community this is the nicest interior I have ever seen. The pedals look like new. The door panels are near mint, the seat fabric excellent, perfect headliner with the original glass light above. The dash has never been cut and it retains the original working AM radio. Even the original "cardboard" sun-visors and kick panels are original. The original Aladdin Gray paint on the dashboard is perfect. The steering wheel is near perfect to mint. This is the possibly best vintage car I have ever owned. It never fails to start. I have fitted new radial tires with port-a-walls. A brand new battery this week. New brakes, wheel cylinders and brake lines. For a car with 4 wheel drum brakes it actually stops straight and true. It is incredibly easy to work on and all the parts are available from AMC/Rambler parts dealers. Obviously frequent oil changes are needed as this car does not have a factory oil filter. All the lights, brake lights and turn signals work, and for night driving I fitted modern halogen headlights. This car has the "Flash-O-Matic" automatic. AMC bought this unit from Borg-Warner. It is the same transmission that most European car makers used up until the 1970's. Even Jaguar used this transmission on the 265hp sports cars. This transmission gives this car a longer rear-end ratio and it easily goes down the interstate at 70MPH something the cars without overdrive really can't do comfortably. While these were economy cars AMC used one of the strongest uni-bodies and used heavy gauge steel. Amazingly this car does not rattle or squeak after near 60 years. I welcome questions about this car. Please call me at 216-470-2146. You may also e-mail me with any questions. I have set a reasonable reserve and would like to sell this car to a fellow collector. Thanks for looking and good luck.
