These are Original Miles to Chassis and Engine! ) It’s time to sell our Westy. This is our second one. We bought it in 2003 with just less than 80,000 miles on the odometer. I purchased it from an elderly woman who indicated that she never used it herself but was selling it since she inherited it from her sister. It’s a CA car with no major signs of rust except for a few small spots under the rear window. (See pics - They have been treated with rust converter.) It’s a non-smoking vehicle. It has been well maintained with regular maintenance, repairs and many upgrades. Some of these are listed below. I started replacing/upgrading things to make it like new thinking I would be keeping this forever. Unfortunately, I can’t get anyone to go camping anymore. They all want to fly to Europe or Hawaii. Yeah, it’s crazy! Engine – Cooling, Fuel & Ignition Replaced Heater Hoses Replaced Coolant Hoses Filled with Genuine VW coolant Installed Fuel Tank Re-Seal kit (Crossover pipe, hose, O-rings, etc…), Fuel Filter & Flexible Fuel Lines Replaced Accessory Drive Belts Tune-Up K&N Air Filter Transmission / Drivetrain Gene Berg Quick Shift Kit & Extension (It really shortens the reach for 3rd gear) Replaced Clutch Slave Cylinder Installed New GKN CV Joints and Boots (All 4 replaced) Brakes South African Front Disc Brake Kit - Hubs, Bearings, Rotors, Calipers, Pads & Hoses (It’s amazing compared to the stock brakes!) Flushed Brake System Adjusted Parking Brake Electrical Headlight Relay Kit & Upgraded Sylvania Bulbs (So much brighter) New Pioneer Head Unit with CD and Aux inputs New Hirschman Antenna Suspension / Tires & Wheels Rebuilt Front End with New Radius Arm Bushings, Ball Joints and Control Arm Bushings (It still has occasional squeak from upper control arm bushing on speed bumps. Common problem on Vanagons.) Heavy Duty ADDCO Front and Rear Sway Bars (Rear has not been installed but is included in sale) Bilstein HD shocks Upgraded Coils Springs Front End Alignment VW Rhein Wheels Michelin Agilis Tires 205/65R15 (Load Range C) Overall ride is substantially better than stock! Miscellaneous Upper Bunk Step (Replaces Front Table and very useful to get up without stepping on stove/sink cover) Front and Middle Floor Mats New Seals for Pop-Top & Luggage Rack Yakima Luggage Rack Crossbars w/ Locks Potential Concerns No Front Table – It didn’t come with it and I never used it in my previous Westy. The upper bunk step is way more useful. AC could use a recharge again. We recharged it when we bought it. Worked great until it slowly leaked out over the last 10 years. Minor dent in right rear quarter (from previous owner) It could use a paint job if you are looking for the perfect Westy. We’ve just enjoyed it without having to worry about getting our first scratch when we take it camping. Two small slits (approx 3/4" long) in top canvas. It got pinched by the top frame when we closed it. Extras - Included in the van are the following items: Documentation- (VW Manual, Camper Manual, Stereo Manual, etc…) Bentley Service Manual Extra Front Door Pocket - Bought one for the Passenger Side to match the Driver Side (2) Grab Handles – For the Driver Side to match the Passenger Side & the Sliding Door Replacement gaskets for Hook-Up Boxes Heavy Duty Extension Cord (2) New A-Pillar Trim pieces (Black) New Rear Sway Bar Kit New Bosch O2 Sensor (3) New Mann Oil filters Custom Fit Car Cover This has been a great van for camping. We primarily used it for sleeping and would use an ice chest and portable stove. We barely used the sink, stove & fridge in the Westy. They look great and all work – although the fridge can be difficult to light on propane. This van is complete and ready to go with dual battery set-up, all curtains, rear bug screen, HD power cord, spare tire, jack, etc… Just load the camping gear and go. As you can see, I tried to take good care of it. It runs and drives great around town and on open roads. It can easily cruise at 70 – 80 mph and I would not hesitate to take it on a cross-country trip. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional info or photos. No engine, trans or coolant leaks. No rust underneath or in quarters. The only serious rust is on the back hatch per photos. Engine starts right up and runs great.
