Vehicle Detail

1984 BMW R-100 Motorcycle No Reserve Auction! Low mileage, pampered, R 100 bike that is equipped for touring and FUN to drive. This German classic motorcycle is in very good condition considering it's almost 30 years old. Drives and operates like a dream, just as a world class machine that it is. It has no liens, and I have had no insurance claims. Purchased from a BMW dealer in Colorado in 2001, it was a trade in from a customer that lovingly took care of it and had it serviced at their dealership regularly. It had 28,423 original miles on it when I purchased it (I have the dealer's disclosure stating this), and I have since put on an additional 10,000. It now totals over 38,232. I usually drive it for pleasure in the spring and fall in Texas. It has led a pampered existence spending most of it's life in my garage. I am moving from a home with a 3 car garage to one with just 2. I won't keep this outside, so it is offered for sale (located in Fort Worth, TX). Make: BMW Engine: 980cc Miles: 38232 Model: R 100 Transmission: 5 SPD VIN:WB1043503E6176850 Fairing: Vetter Ext. Color: Burnt Orange Seat: Vinyl w/Black Leather Primary Features: When I purchased the bike, the owner had added Krauser bags and a custom seat cover on the original BMW seat pan (at least I have never seen another like it). It is a comfort weave gray vinyl with black leather inserts. It is very comfortable and supportive. The seal also has a back rest with carry shelf. It was originally clad in gray paint. I added added a used Vetter fairing (may have been a cop's as there are a few switches and pass through holes). I had the bike painted to the color you see today. I have the original folding key and it locks the seat and fork. It has the original air pump and tool kit. I have an original owner's manual but it did not come with this bike. Condition Notes: Overall, it is in very good condition for it's age. I have had a local BMW mechanic perform all maintenance on it. The engine and transmission is original. Other than routine tune ups, tires, brakes and various adjustments, the only significant repair work done on the machine was to rebuild the carburetors, front fork and odometer. Like many of these R machines the odometer started spinning a few years ago but when I had it repaired, I had the mechanic set the then current mileage. Texas title does not state miles and lists it as exempt but I will show you my mileage disclosure at purchase and certify to your state it's current mileage if needed. More Condition Notes: Most parts are original or OEM replacements except for the battery which is about 2 years old but holds a charge just fine. The engine starts and operates flawlessly. It shifts smoothly. I generally get around 48-50 mpg even around town. The only thing that needs repair is my turn signals. The lights sometime do not flash when selected. I had my mechanic check the wiring in the fairing but he could not find a cause. He believes the turn switch may need replacement but he did not have one to try it. r The bike has cast alloy spoke wheels. They are in physically good condition but their surface coat is starting to flake. It should be possible to have them buffed and powder coated to make them look brand new. The rear tires were replaced about 3 years ago which means they probably have less than 4000 miles. The front is about a year older but is starting to crack on the sidewall. I had the mechanic put innertubes in each so this would not cause a leak. The bike has the original BMW kick stand. Because it leans too far over I added a sturdy after market stand which keeps the bike up on any slope. It also has a ride off (lower height) stand (both seen above). The gas tank is keyed but I had to pin the cap. A common issue with the BMW locking caps is that the friction twist eventually just spins, even when unlocked. That makes it hard to remove. I had it pinned so that it always twists free. The tank holds 6.3 gallons of unleaded gas. 91 octane is preferred by BMW but I have run 87 at times without problem. With no gas gauge, the bike shifts to reserve at about 230 miles and should go another 70 miles. There are 2 fuel petcocks but with a crossover to both carburetors you only need to open one. If you do use one side and shift to reserve, the tank is shaped so that when you run dry a second time, you may select the opposite side but you want to fill up soon. The bike has it's original exhaust but it in very good condition and sounds and looks great. The bike has very good storage. Seen above, the Krauser bags are removed but you can see the optional back rest and package shelf. A backpack loops around the rest and sits nicely on the rear shelf. The front dual disk brake was replaced and the reservoir (seen above the right grip) reconditioned about two years ago. It stops quickly and in a straight line. The Vetter has two large storage pockets. I keep a rain jacket in one side and have only used them a couple of times. When it does rain, you will be glad you have a fairing. It has a cigarette lighter but it probably is not connected to power. I believe all the tools are there. I have used them to replace a tire. The plastic tool box has a small .5 inch piece that fatigued and broke free. I'll put it in the box but it doesn't affect it in the least. The seat is fully functional and locks the tools and helmet strap if used (piece by left part of hand hold). The original kick stand. Th One Krauser bag is seen above. It has keys which both lock the bag and lock the bag to the bike. The left latch is worn on the right bag and sometimes allows the cover to release. The right latch is fine. The left bag bike lock cracked as I put it on. I will attempt to have it repaired before you pick it up, but you might end up having to replace it. The bags do not have a liner. The bike will be sold to the highest bidder. I request that you use cash or certified check. I require that the bike be paid for within 7 days of auction end but you may delay picking it up if you wish. I can pick you up at D/FW airport if you are flying in. The bike may be driven home or I will help a shipping service load the bike if you prefer. I have title and it is ready to go now.
