Vehicle Detail

Honda V65 Magna For auction is this beautiful 1986 Honda V65 Magna.  Sporting 130 horsepower and Honda's famous V-4 engine, this is an incredibly smooth ride with tremendous power and torque.  As Honda's technology showcase, it was equipped with all the latest gear, which still reads current 25 years later -- dual-piston, dual-caliper front brakes, anti-dive front forks, fully-adjustable suspension, thermostat-controlled cooling, gear indicator, warning lights for burnt-out bulbs, and that 130 horsepower engine that propelled it from 0-60 in 2.1 seconds.  NO RESERVE THIS TIME AROUND -- the high bidder will ride away on this Honda. This example is tastefully close to stock, with the only modifications a Corbin Gunfighter saddle and excellent forward controls from TC Brothers.  The forward controls make this bike feel both comfortable and current, and improve the aesthetics, while being easily returned to stock.  The Gunfighter saddle makes this a comfortable all-day ride. Mechanically, this bike is a 9/10.  It has just had the carburetors professionally rebuilt by one of the foremost specialists in V-4 carb rebuilds in the USA, who has a 3-month waiting list for this task.  The valves have just been adjusted, oil changed, and the top end inspected for wear.  The 1986 is the last year of the V65 and the first one where Honda got the top-end oiling done right, so if you want a long-lived bike without having to invest in dicey oil mods the 1986 is the only way to go.  The bike starts instantly and just purrs, pulling wonderfully at all RPM's.  The transmission shifts smoothly, and the ride quality, handling, and brakes are all excellent.   The tires and battery are new.  The cooling system works flawlessly.  The only mechanical flaw on the bike that I'm aware of is the dust cover on the front right fork leg, which is starting to crack from dry-rotting.  The fork seals themselves, however, are good and do not leak.  Also, the turn signal switch is a little sticky, but this doesn't affect function. Cosmetically, the bike is a 6.5/10.  It does not appear to have been in any accidents.  The paint is shiny, as is a lot of the chrome, but the aluminum surfaces show wear to the clearcoat from sun exposure and the rear shocks have some surface rust on the pistons and inside of the springs.   Some chrome surfaces show pitting.  The outer vinyl covering of the Corbin seat is showing some cracking from age, and there is some sun bleaching of the plastics.  There is evidence of some fuel having spilled out of the gas tank at past fill-ups.   The exhaust is rust-free.   Overall, a nice-looking bike for its age but it would need a bit of elbow grease and some further investment to get it to show quality.  That said, it does get a lot of compliments. Selling to pare down my collection and placate my wife.  The bike has a clear New Jersey title, and can be viewed in Brooklyn, NY.  I will include the leather saddlebags pictured in the photo at the lookout point.  The photo was taken on one of the day trips I took on the bike last summer.  Bid with confidence, I practice full disclosure on all items I sell, and I've bought and sold a lot of motorcycles on eBay over the years.   I would not hesitate to ride this bike any distance.  Fly-and-rides are welcome. On Apr-28-13 at 20:06:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that the side covers have some of the mounting posts missing.  The right side cover has one post missing.  The left side cover had two posts missing, but I made a replacement using plastic posts and JB-Weld.  The left side cover also has a small crack in it.  This is visible in the detailed pictures.  On Apr-29-13 at 04:58:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I also forgot to mention that the brakes were serviced last fall, with hydraulic fluids changed and new brake pads installed, and that when the carbs were rebuilt and top-end serviced the bike had new intake gaskets installed as well as a coolant change.
