My Aunt's mother bought this car new in 1971 from Dayton Imports in Ohio. When she died she gave it to my aunt who kept it in in her garage for years until the rubber fuel lines started leaking then they pushed it outside where it sat for about a year. My Aunt gave me this car in 2003 and it has sat in my barn until now. I always wanted to fix this car up but never got the chance. Now I am selling my house and need to unload this unique car. I have been working to get the car running, but it is clear that the fuel system is gummed up. My dad and I rebuilt the electric fuel pump and it is working, however, I dont believe that gas is flowing out of the fuel tank to the pump. The pump was definately gummed up inside when we took it apart and cleaned it out. So I am sure the tank in gummed up as well. I know this car runs very well...we took off the air cleaner off and poured gas down the intake manifold and cranked it over. This lettle engine purrs like a kitten until the fuel runs out. The oil is super clean. I know my aunts mom to great care of this car. She has notes all over the owners manual from when the car was serviced, as well as other varios notes over the years. If you want an old VW to fix up this is the one becasue all the original parts are intact. I have been researching the price to set ont his car and was not having much luck. The only prices I have found are on NADA classic cars. The low retail is $4300, agerage retail is $8150, and High retail is $14,200. So im thinking that the car would be worth fixing up if you can get it at the right price.
