THE LEGEND LIVES!!! Let me first say that I recently ended an auction for this wonderful car because a certain individual was supposed to purchase it out right. He unfortunately underestimated the cost of shipping overseas. Please have your financing in place and bid only ifn you are able to pay! IMMPECABLE 1968 PONTIAC FIREBIRD H.O PHS DOCUMENTED / FACTORY 4 SPEED HURST SHIFTER / HIGHLY OPTIONED RUNS INCREDIBLY STRONG!!! THIS 68 H.O. FIREBIRD IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS AND EQUIPT WITH FRONT DISC BRAKES, POWER STEERING & PERFORMANCE SUSPENSION! RARE FACTORY SOLAR RED CAR WITH ORIGINAL SCARLET BLACK INTERIOR! Documented Born on the 10thDAY OCT 1967 ST=68=1968 109199 2=Pontiac R2= Solar Red 53=black buckets 34 Option Code = 400 HO 4 BBL 35 Option Code = 4 Speed Manual 36 Option Code = Performance Axle 36-1 Option Code = Safety Track 43 Option code =hood mounted Tach 44 Option Code =Rally Gauge Cluster 45 Option Code = Rally II wheels 47 Option Code = Console 48 Option Code = Dual Exhaust 52 Option Code = Front Disc Brakes 53 Option Code = Soft Ray Tinted Glass 53-4 Option Code = Custom Pedal trim Plates 62 option Code= Performance Ride & Handling Package This particular 1968 Firebird is a two owner vehicle. The car spent the bulk of its time in the hands of the second owner. Until a 1994 the car was stored. It was lying dormant & basically not used for approximately 14 years. It is truly a RARE find! The car has never been involved in any sort of accident. It is the kind of muscle car that you stumble across only every so often. You simply can’t take this car out of the garage at anytime without attracting a crowd! Thumbs up, cattle calls & compliments are simply common place. If you are bashful or not a people person this is not the car for you! Warning: Random strangers will approach!!! Ironically I have owned several muscle cars in my life time but few have really garnered the attention that this car has. This Tin Indian has a ferocious growl & the car will bark the tires in every single gear! At any rate the original owner of this car purchased it from Ken Bender Pontiac in St. Charles Mo. This classic Firebird has never left the state of Missouri. He rarely drove the {according to the second owner}. The second owner actually became quite good friends with this gentleman & got to know him pretty well. This Firebird has a good history & back round {backed up with documentation}. Anyway…. after about a two decades in the hands of the original owner he decided to part ways with it {supposedly he needed a family car}. After the car left his hands the second owner began to drive it and eventually decided to paint it. The paint job is a few years old but it still looks awesome! While I won’t call it a show car this Firebirds exterior presents itself very well! The original Flame Red exterior warns the public “A Muscle Car is on the prowl”! The factory Solar paint doesn’t have any imperfections to really speak of. There may be a hic up here & there but they are few and far between. I am certain that the new potential owner will be more than pleased with this vintage Firebirds overall presentation! The body of this Poncho would be yet another strong topic to discuss. As you walk around the circumference of this vehicle you will notice that the body lines are clean & the contour of the car is near perfect. Each & every panel lines up properly {no accidents} and the doors & trunk shut tight! You can tell that this classic Firebird is really different from most of the classic cars that you come across. It is evident that it has not passed through many hands like the litany of cars that make it to the classic car auction block. Upon opening the door you will be surprised to find the original door buzzer still chiming loud and clear. Very original car. The second owner cherished this car and maintained it religiously. There’s a litany of service records that are included with the sale of the car. To the individual who has been looking for an investment grade quality automobile that’s extremely fun to drive “your search may be over”! This 68 Firebird has a gorgeous factory original black vinyl interior. The interior looks as if it had almost never been used. The front buckets have been well preserved. I was told that they are actually original to the car but I have no way of proving it. They have no damage at all to them & the contrast against the flame red interior is amazing. The back seats have no damage to them either and they are nearly picture perfect. The headliner doesn’t have a stitch out of place & the dome light still shines brightly. Both door panels are in excellent condition and the arm rest still look as if they were new! The dash in this car has to be seen to truly be appreciated! It fits perfectly & sets a perfect example of what an original one should exemplify. Much better than the catalog dash pads ordered replacements that are so prevalent in muscle cars today. The door sills are original to the car and surprisingly they haven’t been abused like most. The console in the car is not cracked or damaged in any way either. The shifter feels incredible in your hands as you pull the handle into thrashing mode! There’s no doubt that you’re driving a Muscle car when you’re behind the wheel of this one! All of the glass in this vintage vehicle is in great shape. The weather strip inside the car is in great shape & the carpet looks fantastic! All & all this Muscle car is just a pleasure to drive and enjoy. It truly makes you look for a reason to get home and peel the car cover back. The Pontiac insignia steering wheel is in excellent condition {just replaced previous steering wheel was worn}. No damage at all “it's new”! I actually know where the original steering wheel is however it is quite a distance away. It has some cracks in it and the second owner planned on having it repaired {he never did}. This beauty has the 160 mph speedo that came from the factory! Pontiac definitely meant business when they released the H.O model. This car is documented {only 1 of 1415 built}! The Pontiac historical society only accounted for about 322 four speed H.O. cars on the road & in garages today. This H.O. car left the factory with the highly desired WQ code motor. Car and driver claimed in 1968 that Pontiac WQ block cars actually ran a bit better {and faster} than the Firebird Ram Air car! The second owner had documents of a pass that was run at Gate Way International Raceway in Granite City Illinois in 2007. This car was mated against a 1969 Camaro SS 396 car. It best the Camaro by almost two seconds. Later that day the car was also placed along side a 1969 Mach1 390 for a quarter run and the results were even better. This is the only known time that the car has ever been run on a track. While these moments must have been a wonderful time to celebrate. The car accomplished the previously explained feat without its original motor. The block that is in this Poncho is a 400 Firebird block from a 1969 model. The block was built to about the same specs as the original {and actually 30 horse power more}. The second owner was really into Pontiacs and spared no expense making sure that this Firebird {being his favorite} could hold its own! He wanted to keep the car close to original as possible even in regards to performance. I can say with certainty “this Firebird is not for the faint of heart”! I have driven my fair share of big block Muscle cars in my life time but this one is special to me. The car is amazingly powerful but at the same time extremely user friendly. Although it looks mean & sounds even meaner it won’t smoke the tires unless you provoke it to do so. What I mean is you can actually take the Misses out for a night on the town if so desired in this car. I have done so and she was surprised to see just how many people waved & smiled as we passed by. The car starts without any hesitation. There is a knob for the choke that has to be pulled out if she’s cold typical for these old cars}. That being said once she’s started it runs at idle perfectly! It has had a recent tune up & oil change for good measure. Not a lot to say in regards to major details “just good ole ground pounding fun is what you should expect”. There is a performance intake sitting a top of the block with a mint chrome air cleaner. With just a flick of the key this Pontiac springs to life and a sweet note starts to sing by aid of the dual exhaust! This Firebird has a chambered muffler system that has to be heard & experienced to be appreciated. This vehicles exhaust is not annoying like some muscle cars on the road today. It has a deep throaty rumble that you can feel! I can’t forget to talk about this cars bold stance! The factory original Rally II wheels have been completely restored! There are spank brand new PMD caps hugging the mags tight also {looks sharp}. No need to worry about tires with the purchase of this classic car either. The performance tires on this one have just been replaced {less than a week old} receipts included. These raised white letter tires don’t even have 15 miles on them yet! New lugs were installed & valve stems as well. Once again just a sweet Muscle car ….ready to be enjoyed! Please take a moment to listen to this mean spirited bird’s power plant. This Firebird is not only beautiful up top it is nice underneath as well. RUST FREE / ROCK SOLID! Playing to all crowds: If you wanna make this Pontiac your daily driver “go ahead” she’s up to the task! Want to capture a few local car shows in hopes of winning a trophy or two? She’s up to that challenge also. Finally I would like to thank you who made it through my long ad. It is not the norm for me to write a listing that carries on the way that this one did. That being said my enthusiasm for the car & the way that I feel for it pretty much can be seen throughout my description. I have seen a good deal of what is for sale in the classic car market place. Although I won’t make this Firebird out to be a ten point show car I will say with certainty that it is a special vehicle. It hasn’t been passed around and touched by many hands {2 owner vehicle}. This car was of the road for quite a long time. There is a feeling of Nostalgia each & every time you sit behind the wheel of this particular car. By the way this is not a fire sale {no pun intended} basically meaning I don’t plan on giving this car away. I am open to reasonable people wanting to purchase the vehicle at a fair price. You don’t have to wait until the end of the auction to contact me. I already have someone who is anxious to purchase the car but at a bit less than what I want.
