1954 Plymouth Savoy | You are bidding on an unmolested survivor 1954 Plymouth Savoy with only 47,797 actual miles! The owner of our company had bought it for himself to create a cool Rat Rod he can drive daily and to shows but after seeing how original this car was and its known history, he decided it was too good of a car to modify. So instead of lowering it, and changing things around he felt it was only right to let it go to the next loving owner who will keep it original and care for it like the previous 3 owners did. It was originally purchased new by three NUNS from New London, CT in 1954. They had owned this car until the last of the three ladies passed away in 1982. It was then sold to a car collector in Warren, MA who drove it for a week in the summer of 1982 before putting it into prolonged indoor storage for the next 27 years.! The third owner, a well know automotive journalist and TV commentator purchased the car April 13, 2009 and went through it performing front and rear brake rebuild, flushed the cooling system, replaced the muffler and tailpipe, installed new Coker 6.70-15 wide whitewall tires and tuned up the engine. The 6-cyl runs very well and the 3-Speed column shift manual transmission shifts nicely. This is car you can drive with confidence. He stated he put over 7,000 miles on the car just cruising it around and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere. The windows go up and down real easy, the gauges work with the exception of the fuel gauge, the wipers and lights work, even the cigarette lighter works!
The body is in really nice condition. It is pretty solid with just some minor rust on the driver’s floor. The doors, fenders, rockers, quarters, hood and trunk are in nice shape. The frame and cross members are also solid. This car has Tinted Glass which is very rare to see. The paint is mostly original with some touch ups over the years. It has a little faded, but that gives it some character. There are some small dings and scratches here as you would expect for an original car of its age. Again, this is an original 59 year old car so it’s not perfect but still in nice shape. The chrome and bright work is original.
The interior is original. The front and rear seats have covers on them since new which have preserved the original seats under the covers well. The door panels are in good shape. The original headliner is in good original condition. The dash itself shows very well and the chrome is in nice shape. The front rubber floor mat is coming apart but another front section is included with the sale.
Overall, this is just a really cool car. I personally drove it and was amazed how nice it went down the road. The clutch felt good, the brakes stopped fine, and the engine ran smooth. The suspension rides well and I can really see someone flying in and driving this home. This really is a good car and it would be a shame to restore it as you would get rid of all of its history by doing so. Just keep it as is and have a lot of fun with it.
