Central Valley Classics Classic Restorations & Cars For Sale Fresno, California Helping people buy their dreams for over 20 years We are proud to offer this special vehicle for auction! GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING! 1911 International Autowagon VIN - 3232W Original Engine Original Top Original Lighting Original Carbide Generator Rear Seat Electric Starter Added This is something you don't see much of, a very complete and original International Harvester high wheeler. The Auto Wagons were first built in 1907 at the IHC McCormick Works plant in Chicago, but production was soon shifted to the factory in Akron, Ohio. Its estimated that in the neighborhood of 20,000 Auto Buggies and Auto Wagons were built before IHC pulled the plug on its high-wheelers in 1916. The 10-year run made IHC one of the most prolific builders of the big-wheeled cars from the era. For 1907-08, the IHCs were truly wagons with an engine and drive train, and not much more, but from 1909 on they were given a more conventional-type hood in the front end. Earlier models featured an air-cooled engine but this has the water-cooled, four-stroke, horizontally opposed engine displacing 196 cubic inches. The two-cylinder mill had a bore and stroke of 5 inches, each, and produced around 20 horsepower, which likely propelled the Auto Wagon at speeds of about 20 mph The following is per the owner. "Titled as a 1911, this IHC is remarkably complete and has always been a CA car. The following brass items are all original script: headlights, tail lamp, grill emblem and radiator cap. The cowl lamps are brass and ferrous metal. The hubcaps are script iron. The carbide generator is in beautiful shape and the bulb horn works!" "The engine has approx. 2-3 hours on since it underwent a 3 year complete remanufacture. Nearly all the internals are new, the water pump was recast and had an electric start added when reinstalled. It features a 2 speed transmission with dual chain drive. The radiator has no leaks and all the fins are straight. The carburetor was rebuilt and polished to new condition and a fuel shut-off valve was added at that time." "An older restoration of the body still shows well, all the wood is in very nice condition with no rot or cracks. The dash board was recently replaced with a new hard maple piece. The car was originally Black with black fenders and red wheels, the authentic red pin striping was professionally applied and looks great. The front suspension is painted red and is accented with black pin striping. The seat upholstery is near perfect and shows well. The steering wheel was restored and had the spokes polished. This car does have the original top with restored bows and the original rear window. With the top up it stands just about 8 1/2' tall." "This centenarian can be driven and enjoyed as is or use it as garage art. There are others for sale as projects, trying to resurrect one of these from a basket case would be a great challenge for even the best restorer. There is a box of misc. extra parts, an owners manual and misc. literature." My observations are as follows. The top bows were restored but the top material is showing signs of wear, the rear window is really showing it's wear since it's over 100 years old. The paint on the wheels is cracked a bit, they're still presentable but on close inspection you can see it. The serial number is on the engine but I couldn't find it on the car, it may have been attached to the dash board? The engine number matches the title so there aren't any issues but I wanted to be up front with my description. It was upgraded to the electric start so I didn't have to crank it over and it starts up in a couple of seconds, it has an Optima battery. It does drive, I didn't drive it personally but you can watch a video of it running if you email for the link. I took all the pictures except the 2 showing the top up, these were from his photo album. I have additional photos if you want to see more detail, just send me your email address.
