1979 Checker Marathon Was never in Taxi service, this particular car was purchased new as a personal vehicle. Only 127k miles on her. She was a daily driver until about 2 years ago when she was parked as her owners stopped driving her. When parked, she ran and drove fine and had a working A/C system. She had not been driven in nearly 2 years, but with a set of cables and a shot of starting fluid, she fired right up, first attempt. I didn’t let her run long because of the old fuel and oil. The engine sounds good, ran smooth and didn't smoke,there was a little lifter tapping, it got quieter as she ran for a few minutes. She will need belts, hoses, a valve cover gasket, possibly a front seal and a new battery or alternator or perhaps both for when the jumper cables were disconnected from the other car, the Checker stalls. She's going to need some brake work as well, as the pedal goes to the floor when pressed. She is not roadworthy in her present mechanical condition. GM Drivetrain, Chevy inline 6 with an automatic. Under dash Air conditioning and an older after market am/fm stereo. Don’t know if the A/C works now. Tires have good tread, but are dry checked. The interior is in really decent condition, it’s black cloth velour. There are no rear jump seats. She is a complete and original car and has a clear title. For the past 12 years, the old girl has resided in Palm Beach, just a few short blocks from the ocean. Because of this, she has developed a great deal of rust, the most serious of which is on the upper sections of the sheet metal, hood and around the rear window. The bottom of the doors and rocker panels also have rust. The frame appears to be solid. Please view the photos well. I believe the only differences that separate her from herTaxi Cab siblings are the addition of carriage or opera marker lights between the doors, cloth seats, carpet, the absents of rear passenger jump seats, and of course, there isn't a taxi meter attached to the dash or a lighted sign on the roof. But if you so desired, these items may be obtained here on eBay. I was given a quote of $650.00 a week ago from Tropical Auto Shippers in Lauderdale to have the car shipped to Detriot, but the buyer backed out.
