Vehicle Detail

Up for bidding is my 2000 Honda Insight. I am the second owner of this car, and am listing it only because our family is growing and I need more than two seats. The original owner was a meticulous, local friend, who used this car for his long distance commutes from NE to IL, TX, and CA. When I purchased this car over a year ago, it had 256,00 miles, with the IMA battery pack being replaced at 250,000 miles. The previous owner had all service done at the Honda dealership, and was very particular about oil changes, car service, and maintaining optimal running condition. Since I purchased the car, the oil has been changed every 3,000 miles, and has never displayed any problems. The current mileage is 270,927, with overall lifetime economy on the the engine computer listed at 62.2 miles per gallon over 270,000 miles! By looking at the interior and exterior, and driving the car, one would never be able to tell that it has 270,000 miles. The body/frame is made of aluminum, with no signs of corrosion. The paint is in excellent condition, with a small (1/8" x 3") dent on the drivers door, and a small dimple on the passenger rear fender. As it has 270,000 miles, the hood has rock chips and several small scratches noted on the body. The steering is tight, with no wobble or pull during driving. The car drives straight and tight, without any shimmy or noises during driving. The interior is very clean, with no stains or smells, no smoking, and all interior components in excellent shape. I added a Pioneer CD/USB/Satellite deck, as the original Honda radio was rather dull. The engine runs very strong, with no knocks, unusual noises, and excellent power. The IMA system functions without problem, discharges and recharges as it should, and the Auto-Stop and Battery Assist/Charge all in excellent working order. As noted above, the IMA battery pack was replaced at 250,000. The engine does not burn any oil, does not smoke, and runs quietly. No engine codes or difficulties have arisen over the time I have driven this car. The Maintenance Required light is on, and I had the Lincoln Honda Dealer check out the reason for the light not resetting. They stated that the switch used to reset the light (after oil changes) was not working properly, and stated it was not worth tearing apart the dash to replace the switch. The transmission shifts smoothly through the gears, with no grinding or jumping. The only thing I would note is that if the transmission is downshifted from 3rd to 2nd above 20 mph, the gear will chirp. I had the dealer look at the car, and was told that this is not uncommon on this model. When I purchased the Insight from my friend last year, we had the Honda dealership do a complete inspection of the car, with no problems or concerns noted. I recently replaced the spark plugs with iridium plugs, and replaced the air filter and gas filter at the same time, with the battery also being replaced last spring. The only item that will need attention soon are the tires, as they are nearing the end of their usable range (approx $60/each). The Insight is a very efficient car, with my typical mileage averaging 58-67 mpg (@ 60 miles/hour), depending upon the terrain. It will drive down the Interstate @75 miles/hour without a problem, and the mileage jumps to over 70 mpg if you slow down your commute to 55 mph. This has been a very reliable, satisfying car to drive, and I hate to part with it, but with only two seats, it doesn't fit our family's needs anymore. NADA Price is $4,500 for clean retail (including mileage adjustment of $650). I have adjusted my reserve secondary to the need of new tires, etc. Please feel free to ask any questions or look before bidding. Thanks! On Feb-28-13 at 10:35:08 PST, seller added the following information: The Insight IMA battery was replaced at 253,772 in March 2011 at Williamson Honda in Lincoln. This was the first time it was replaced, per checking with the dealer and checking the receipts from the original owner. In discussion with the Williamson Honda rep, the battery carries a 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty, valid at any Honda dealer. The original equipment tires (P165/65R14) - approx $120/each, are available from Bridgestone, although most Insight owners have used the more common (P175/65R14)- approx $60-85/each, available at any tire store in many brands. From discussion with other Insight owners, the slightly wider P175 tires have not had any adverse effect on the performance, and have slightly increased the handling performance, secondary to the slight increase in width.
