Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1946 Chevrolet pickup truck that I purchased from the West Coast and had shipped to Minnesota (wanted to work on something from outside the "Rust Belt"). It was a clean, fairly straight original truck that had been in the process of a restoration when the owner passed. It was all in pieces, some small things missing, most body panels in primer. When I got it home I assembled it, picked up missing pieces, and painted it two-tone satin paint. I wanted to make it look like an old original truck that somebody fixed up for hauling wood "back in the day" and tried to get the appropriate patina. I sanded the body with 220 grit sandpaper and sprayed it without removing scratches, chips, small dings, etc. and had it lettered appropriately to look "old". So, up close, a person can see the body blemishes. I feel it's unusually clean and straight for a truck of this vintage, especially here in Minnesota, but is far from "perfect". The bed is new clear pine with a couple of new floor braces. The little rack on the back is also new clear pine. The undercarriage is clean and painted. The windshield, rear window, and driver's door glass are new, as is the windshield gasket. The passenger side door glass is probably original but looks just fine. Interior is clean, seat is useable but not perfect. I believe that the fenders have had some straightening done and they do look to be way above average in condition. The running boards look great, quite straight, no rust holes. All 4 tires are "New Old Stock" (N.O.S.). Note the lug snow tires on the rear to help get you out of the woods when you're out cutting! Engine seems to run well, may have been rebuilt but I can't prove it. It's clean, I painted it the correct grey color. The transmission is a 4-speed so the low is REALLY low! Brakes work, emergency doesn't, brakes should probably be bled a bit more. Electrical: Wiring is old, brittle in spots, patched a bit, but the headlights, parking lights, tail light and amp guage work, as do the generator and regulator. Body parts and trim are original and in nice condition - even hubcaps, grille and bumper are very nice originals, not repros! (but not perfect, just very nice for the age) I've only driven it around the parking lot where I have it stored but it does seem to function fine, however I've not had it out on the road and it's not currently licensed. In fact, the plate that was on it is from Washington state, 1976, so it may have been off the road for years. This is a very cute little truck, lots of potential to be a fun driver, business or museum prop, "rat rod", or full restoration candidate. The title is an open title in the previous owner's name. His wife signed it off, using her first name, but I've also got the Power of Attorney papers for her. If this bothers you or you are conderned about titling it, please don't bid, I don't want anybody unhappy about anything. It's a nice old truck and the next owner should just enjoy it! I do encourage personal inspection but know this can be a challenge. If you're from out of our area but know somebody here, feel free to have them contact me to take a look. The truck can be stored up to one month after auction ends if it's paid for in full. Payment accepted includes cash or cashier's check, which must clear before truck can be taken, allow at least 10 business days for this. If you want to get a quote, just call Norm Gensmer at 763-389-3848. He's the one that I hired to move this truck from Washington to Minnesota and I was very pleased with both price and service.
