Mercury's Cougar Pony car made its debut in 1967 and was an upscale, posher, larger model compared to Ford's Mustang, GM's Camaro and Firebird, and Mopar's Barracuda. The 1969 featured a rounder styling, more luxurious appointments, and the additions of the 351 Windsor for much better performance. This real 69 XR7 has been converted to an Eliminator with the addition of the correct hood scoop, stripe kit, air dam, and spoiler, it looks mean and aggressive and this killer turns heads. This XR7 came from the factory with the rare option M-Code 351 Windsor cyclone spoiler engine, 10.75 compression ratio, with 290 h.p. During a 4 year old restoration the original engine was bored and balanced, World Sportsman heads , performer intake with larger carburetor, performance cam and headers were added during the rebuilt for an added 60 h.p. This Mercury is also highly optioned with power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, C-6 auto transmission, factory tach with gauges,bucket seats with console, hide away headlights, and sequential tail lights. This Cougar performs, handles very well and is driven on a regular basis. Overall the Cougar is still in good shape, the paint looks presentable, not show quality and has flaws, chips and some beauty marks. The interior is all original and in fair shape.The engine is nicely detailed shows very well and performs as it should with good power through the sturdy C6 automatic transmission.
