Vehicle Detail
HI everyone! We have recently moved and the garage has shrunk from an over sized 2 car garage to one that can barely fit a Yugo and a light bulb! So hence the reason for selling it. It is a little tough having to say good by to it. When I began my search for this rig I had a few things in mind. 1. I wanted something a little different. 2. It could not be a rust bucket. 3. I wanted numbers matching due to the fact I was unsure of what I wanted to do. Restore...or..Hot Rod.... (quite a dilemma). 4. I wanted a y-block and a 4spd. Now for those of you who are fanatics and think maybe I have caught one to many whiffs of exhaust fumes... I would have agreed! right up until I found this rig. Now for a little story I was selling one of my 914's on craigs list and I happen to see an ad for a 1955 ford truck in Portland no info and no Phone number! I emailed the person and no response... go figure. This goes on for nearly 3 months, I see it pop up and the go away, I give up on it and decide it was just not meant to be. Then out of the blue I receive a phone call. The gentlemen explains how he kept changing his mind about selling it. In that short hour and a half phone call I listened to him explain his life story and about how he came by the truck and how he planned on restoring it for his grandchildren. That same call we struck a deal and he delivered it to my door step that very same day. He was worried he would change his mind again. So enough of me rambling on I'll get to the details. I purchased the truck from the second owner. He purchased it in the early 70's and drove it into the late 80's before he parked it in the barn. During that time he said he had rebuilt the motor and replaced the clutch. In the early 90's he pulled it out for one of the kids and had it repainted and was drivin till the late 90's and it was parked once again. Last registration done was 98 and it has sat ever since. It arrived on trailer at my home and had not been started since 1998. I pushed it into my garage. I drained the old fuel and oil out, replaced the fuel filter, rebuilt the carb put on a new 6volt Carter low pressure electric fuel pump. I have been down this road to many times with the mechanical pumps, between the vapor locks and the slow engine turn over the mechanical pump is just a nuisance .I put new plugs in( put a couple of drops of mystery oil in each cylinder and spun over by hand), new rotor, new 6 volt battery. I hit the starter button and she fired right up! I had to do a little work on the brakes and they work wonderful now as well as the E-brake. The transmission is solid and the clutch is good. So she runs, stops and shifts. The ram horn manifolds are good as well as the cross over pipe. It needs exhaust work. it leaks at the header pipe and no muffler to really speak of. Oil pressure is 40 psi at idle. Engine sounds nice. Drive train is nice and rear end is good. The steering seems good. The body is in good shape and the paint is nice. The cab corners are in good shape as well as the drip rails along the roof. There is a little rust under the paint on the under lip of the hood but not bad. The doors are solid and the window regulators work good. There are a couple of nicks in the paint as well as a couple of small dings in the bed. The upper rails especially. The engine bay area and the cab are in good shape. The running boards appear to be strong and firm but I can see a little rust in the support channels. In my opinion I would replace all the glass. It has become so cheap to do now. I can see the bottoms of the glass becoming milky and the back glass and the wing windows have cracks in them. There is a guy on ebay now selling a complete glass kit for 500.00. Cheap in my opinion and well worth it. It has newer Toyo tires 225x60x16 and nice rims on it. The interior looks okay. I removed the tattered headliner out of it. The carpet is in nice shape. as well as the dash. The electrical needs some work. The lights do come on if you pull easy on the switch and the turn signals flash fine. The headlight switch is the main bus for the electrical on the dash so before I would go to deep into it I would replace the switch and then see if there any issues. The undercarriage needs a good cleaning but other than it is a wonderful rig and a perfect candidate for restore! Here is your chance to own a numbers matching rig with the perfect combination. 239 y-block with a T98 Borg Warner 4spd. Please feel free to give me a call at 541-378-8807 with any questions or concerns. I'm happy to sell over sea's and will help in any way possible. No Warranty implied or given. I do reserve the right to end Auction early. Thanks for looking!
